UPDATE FROM YOUR TREASURER!

1. Today, I’m attending a Michigan Land Bank meeting. The content has been excellent so far in regards to housing shortage, innovative ideas on vacant land use, and how land banks can best be structured. Next meeting in Warren is later this month! I’ll keep you posted.

2. Been focusing a lot on this year’s upcoming budget for my office and my mission to create the Treasurer’s Office of the future. Planning, training, and so much more involved. I want to make sure whoever is Treasurer next they don’t only have a great team, but a succession plan as we continue to grow up leaders. I will be presenting my plan to City Council later this month. We are in Phrase 1 of the plan currently, but looking forward to discussing with other leaders and residents.

3. More Money Talks episodes this year! Topics to come: Investments, taxes, and starting a small business!

4. Our city’s investment summit will be later this spring. All banks/investors will participate to discuss an account update, new products, and rates. This is also the time we as a leadership team in Treasurer’s do an investment review to ensure your tax dollars are in the best position!

5. Postcards went out today to residents who are delinquent on their 2024 taxes. This is not an official bill, but a gentle reminder. In my almost 10 years of being your Treasurer, residents sometimes have missed bills or just simply forgot. The quicker residents realize their taxes are delinquent, the less fees they could potentially pay.

6. We are in the process of installing new internal technology for our city’s payroll. This new system saves time, money, and frankly just much easier. My office has always used new technology to make the lives of employees and residents easier!

7. As Treasurer, I serve on the Library Commission. Our current Director will be retiring soon and in the process of hiring a new Library Director. I will keep you posted on this as well!

8. Our AARP Tax Service for seniors was very successful this year and we were able to get a lot of residents through! Next year, we will do more pre sign up events because residents really appreciated having a scheduled time.

WARREN RESIDENTS! Two things to know Monday!

1. AARP Free Tax Return Help for seniors and lower income residents returns next week! AARP will be at Warren City Hall the following dates here from 8:30am-11:00am. This is a walk up service, but if they are full for that particular day, they will try to get you in a different day. I know the water bills went out later this month so some residents missed the early sign up. FEAR NOT! There is still a decent amount of availability. When you come in, make sure you have all the proper documentation.

DATES FOR AARP February 3rd, 5th, 10th, 12th, 19th, 24th, and 26th
March 3rd, 4th, 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, and 31st
April 2nd, 7th, and 9th

2. The second installment of your 2024 Warren Summer Tax Bill is due Friday January 31st. You may pay online, over the phone, in our office, use either drop box, or mail to us. Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns. 586 574 4554.

TREASURER’S OFFICE UPDATES!

1. This past week, our department has undergone needed system upgrades! Tomorrow we go live again in accepting payments. It may be a little bumpy tomorrow, so please be patient. Newer technology helps in faster processing and higher security for our residents.

2. This fall, I will be rolling out some additional education in helping residents become homeowners here in Warren! Stay tuned!

3. The newest episode of Money Talks is now available! In this episode I talk to our Warren Councilman Jonathan Lafferty about banking and how it helps residents move forward financially!

4. AARP Tax Service is returning for residents next year! Since my time as your Treasurer, we have helped thousands of residents file their income taxes for free! Last year, we introduced a pre sign up event for Warren residents. This way, your date to sign up for your taxes was locked in! We received terrific feedback so will be doing that again! Stay tuned!

5. This year, will be the 4th Annual Warren Toy Drive! We have out grown all of the previous spaces so this year, it will be very roomy! Tons of fun but also, let’s bring lots of toys and raise money for those in our community who need it the most!

Today, at least the first installment of your 2024 summer tax is due!

Ways to pay:

1. Come see us at City Hall until 6pm
2. Pay online or over the phone (844 435 3977) before midnight
3. Drop off check or money order in one of our two drop box locations. We have one at City Hall and one at the Burnette Library Branch.

TREASURER UPDATE!

Good afternoon friends!

This summer has been busy with a lot of office transition. Our dear Doug has retired (congrats) and we have been doing a lot of training. Very proud of the team who have worked hard to learn new things and adjust to new roles!

Our fall will be very busy as well!

1. Look out for more Money Matters with Lorie episodes! These will be done hopefully this year: Banking and Technology, Investing, Homeownership and Credit. Looking forward to bringing this important information to our residents!

2. We are installing and expanding more technology for our residents! Our own systems and resident portal will be updated! We are working with our Police Department and others to help them with their payment technology.

3. We will be doing a city investment review this fall (as we do yearly) to continue our commitment in ensuring we have the wisest investments for our tax dollars!
