SHARON’S SNIPPETS
2026 -21

Ron suggested I write a snippet about my contributions to the Elk Township, over the years. So…here goes! I moved to Scandia in 1981, from Jamestown, NY, 45 years ago. I got acquainted with the community immediately, as I co-owned the Scandia Store. In 1982, I joined Scandia VFD, where I served for 27 active, busy years. I held all the business offices: President, V.Pres., Secretary, Treasurer and Ambulance Lieutenant. I was a PA certified EMT for 25 years, and served as chair for many committees, such as the Pumpkin Festival and the Chainsaw Carve. I wrote a SVFD newsletter, for many years, that was mailed to our residents. Although retired from active duty, and now at 44 years of membership, I continue to help with fund raising events. In 1995, I chaired Elk Township’s Bicentennial Celebration. I joined the ETHS Board about 15 years ago. I have served as President, V. Pres. and Secretary. I maintain most of our FB page, do publicity for our events, am the author of Sharon’s Snippets and enjoy sharing our history at Open House events.. Volunteering is my passion. It feels like Elk Township has always been my home, and I’m truly grateful to give back to the community, that means so much to me!

SHARON’S SNIPPETS
2026 - 20

This is Reynolds Run School. It looks like it was located about halfway between Cable Hollow Rd. and Priest Hollow Rds., according to an old map! There is little known about this school. It opened in 1891 and closed in 1921. Somewhere there was a recorded deed from Albert Reynolds dated Dec. 11, 1891. If anyone has further info or pics, please share in the comments. Thanks!

The 1st grade class from St. Joseph’s Catholic School visited our 1800s restored one-room school on Tuesday, for a field trip. Thirteen students, their teacher and many parents spent two hours with us learning about the way school was in the “old” days. I played Mrs. Wall, a former teacher. Ron Johnson, a student at Scandia School in the mid-1950s was interviewed about his experiences, as well as a first grader’s parent, Aaron Burdick, who attended here in later years. The children enjoyed the museum, ate lunch in our pavilion and played on the playground, before returning home with a gift of pencil packs, as a remembrance of their visit.

It was a red/white/blue morning as Sue Knowlden, Barbara Wanner and myself made patriotic centerpiece deliveries to the Watson Home, Kinzua Nursing/Rehab Center and the Allegheny Homeless Veteran’s Center. Thirty plus centerpieces were created by our Wednesday Women’s group. Sandra Blum received a “bumble bee” mug from me, for all her service, as director/founder of the faith based Bee Courageous Garden Grub Program, also located at the Homeless Veteran’s Shelter!
