COVID-19 Scam Alert

Mayor James Fouts, Police Commissioner William Dwyer and the Warren Police Department wish to bring awareness to the increasing amount of COVID-19 frauds being conducted throughout the nation. The frauds are being facilitated through telephone calls, unsolicited emails or fraudulent social media platforms. The contacts can be made through unlisted phone numbers or unknown email addresses, but sometimes appear as legitimate phone numbers or trusted email addresses and/or internet sites.

Citizens are advised to be extremely suspicious of ANY unsolicited call, email or internet site offering either a vaccine or financial aid due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some signs to be watchful are listed below, but are not limited to:

• Being asked to pay out of pocket for the vaccine
• Being asked to pay to put your name on a vaccine waiting list
• Being asked to pay to get early access to a vaccine
• Advertisements for vaccines through social media platforms, email, telephone calls, online, or from unsolicited/unknown sources
• Marketers offering to sell or ship doses of the vaccine for payment

We urge citizens to protect themselves. Please do NOT give out your personal information to unknown sources.

If you believe you have been the victim of COVID-19 fraud, immediately report it to:

HHS-OIG Hotline: 1-800-HHS-TIPS I tips.hhs.gov
FBI Hotline: 1-800-CALL-FBI I ic3.gov
CMS/Medicare Hotline: 1-800-MEDICARE

Mayor Fouts stated “Please be aware of the scams that are a threat to citizens of our city”

Commissioner William Dwyer stated “The Warren Police Department is committed to the protection of our residents and the prosecution of those involved in defrauding them”

Warren Police Department will be conducting a pedestrian safety week from October 15-21. From 2015-2019 statistics show the City of Warren ranked the third highest in pedestrian related traffic crashes.

Officers will be looking for violations related to motorist such as illegal turns, failing to stop at a signal/stop sign before a crosswalk, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalk, and blocking a roadway that interferes with the normal flow of traffic.

Officers will also be looking for violations related to pedestrians such as not following traffic control signals, not walking on a sidewalk where one is provided, and not walking facing traffic when on roadway.

Please be aware of this and lets try to lower the City of Warrens pedestrian related accidents.
