Everybody did good answering our first question about if we’re paid if not?
We are not, but we have to pass the same set of requirements paid firefighters do.
Here is a bit of information that many of you may not know:
Did you know that about 65% of firefighters in the United States are volunteers? Here in Connecticut, more than 8,300 firefighters serve as volunteers, making up the majority of our state’s fire service. These dedicated men and women leave their jobs, families, and daily routines at a moment’s notice to answer the call—24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
🚨 That being said, we do not work in shifts and our fire house is not staffed. If you have an emergency dial 911. Do not just go to the fire house. 🚨
Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of many Connecticut communities. The next time you see a volunteer firefighter, take a moment to say thank you. Better yet, consider joining your local department—your community needs you. 🚒❤️
100% true. As our fire community starts to age they may not meet the minimum requirements for standards recommended by NFPA to fight fires safely on the inside. Unfortunately emergency situations will always come up, but what happens if there isn’t anyone left to assist?
