Special Report: Government Shutdown

UPDATED:

Team: Unfortunately, our government remains in a shutdown at this time. Although the situation absolutely could change ‪before Monday‬, we want to help you plan for what to expect. At this time, guidance for employees is as follows.

-- Active military report for duty as normal.

-- Civilian employees do NOT report for duty unless contacted and notified by your supervisor that you are supporting an EXCEPTED ACTIVITY. Most civilians will be placed in a furloughed status. This is no indication of how valuable you are to our Army, but it is required by law.

-- Contractors should contact your COR and/or company for additional information.

-- All FMS folks need to report for duty.

- UPDATE: Matrix employees should follow guidance from their parent organization.

Again, we remain hopeful that our country's leaders will reach a resolution. This is incredibly challenging situation for everyone, and what you do is tremendously important to nationals security.

Please continue to monitor the DOD website (‪www.defense.gov‬) and OPM (‪https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/furlough-guidance/#url=Shutdown-Furlough‬) for updates. Stay in touch with your supervisor, and we'll do everything possible to get you the answers you need as soon as possible. Also, please watch the news, if the shut down is resolved through the evening and night, please report to duty as scheduled.

The documents below are intended to help prepare the Defense Department workforce for the possibility of a government shutdown.

Please see below for new gate operations hours!

Teammates,

After a comprehensive review of our gate requirements and manpower scheduling by our Garrison and Directorate of Emergency Services, we are pleased to announce that effective 30 October, the 11 Mile Gate exit hours will be extended one hour. Effective that day, new hours for that gate will be 0530-1800, Monday-Friday. The Mound Gate will continue to be open 24 hours.

The extended hour for the 11 Mile gate should help alleviate the vehicle congestion during the peak departure times, and will enhance safety. Lastly, as we approach the winter season, a big thank you to our Police and Guards who continue to support our mission and brave the elements every day for us at these gates---they are unsung heroes, so give them a thanks when you can.

The acquisition of the 30 mm cannon-equipped Stryker, which began in the fall of 2015, was a relatively quick process. It took about 15 months from the receipt of funds to the delivery of ICV-D prototypes, said Maj. Gen. David Bassett, program executive officer for the Army's ground combat systems.

"You're seeing an acquisition timeline that was not driven by bureaucracy, but was driven by the actual activities and underlying tasks that we needed both our contractors and the Army team to do together," Bassett said.
