From the National Weather Service:
There will be periods of showers and thunderstorms expected Wednesday with localized rainfall totals in excess of three inches
possible across northern Illinois, which could result in significant rises and possible flooding on area streams and rivers.
Heavy rain can quickly overwhelm drainage systems, creeks, and roadways, creating dangerous flash flood conditions with little or no warning. Floodwaters may appear shallow, but the current can be powerful enough to sweep away vehicles, carry debris, and create hidden hazards beneath the surface.
If you encounter a flooded roadway, never drive through it. Turn Around, Don't Drown®. Avoid walking through floodwaters, stay away from creeks and drainage ditches, and monitor local weather alerts for changing conditions. Stay weather aware and help keep yourself, your family, and your neighbors safe.
