The following program detailed below is being implemented in Forest County by the Tionesta Lions Club but can be done in any of our communities with folks that are living alone. Communities all have service clubs and/Churches that can help.

Are you a single person living alone in Tionesta? Do you have family and friends who live too far away to help you should you have a medical emergency? The Tionesta Lions Club has found a new FREE technology that can help. The Snug Safety App is a free check-in service designed with seniors in mind, but could help anyone living alone. Every day, the app prompts you to check in on your phone to confirm you’re okay, and will automatically notify loved ones if you’re unresponsive so you can get help quickly. They have over 10 million check-ins daily and the service is recommended by the AARP Magazine, The New Yorker, Forbes, Sixty + Me and Senior Home Central. It is also recommended by members of the Tionesta Lions Club who have been using it for several months.

Here’s how it works. First, download the FREE app on your Smartphone. It works on both Apple and Android operating systems. Go to your Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search “Snug Safety”. Then, you add your contacts, who will be notified if you DON’T check-in; Snug recommends 2-3 reliable contacts. Be sure you confirm with your friend or loved-one that they agree to serve as your contact. Your contact(s) will be sent an email in the event that you don’t check-in by the time of day that you choose. They will know you didn’t check-in, and can either check on you directly, or alert the local safety services if needed. For those with chronic health concerns or no local contacts, you can choose to upgrade to the subscription level. For a monthly fee, Snug will contact you by phone and/or send local safety services as needed. However, the FREE level works well for those who have friends or family nearby and no health concerns.

Maybe you don’t have family or friends nearby who can check-in on you. This is where the Tionesta Lions Club is offering to help. Several Lions have offered to serve the Tionesta community members who need a local contact.
