New this year, Lean Elementary students got a special kind of lesson: how to do lunch!

Principal Karla Warren walked students through the process of lining up, finding their seats and, of course, heading outside for recess.

Now, these students are ready and excited for their first lunch and recess of the school year next week! 🍔🌮🥙🥪

Last night, Harwood, Willow Woods, and Wilde welcomed families for the first open houses of the year. Parents got a look inside classrooms, met staff, and learned more about what’s ahead for students this school year.

Members of the WCS Community,

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and have had the opportunity to make memories with friends and family. I write to you today to welcome you back to school for the 26/27 school year.

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 2. For your planning purposes, September 2 and September 3 are both half days for students. We've had a busy summer around the district. We have welcomed several outstanding new staff members to our team, our bond construction work has gone very well, and our buildings and
grounds are ready for your return.

Last June, I published my second "Instructional Report" as your superintendent. You can find a copy on the "Office of the Superintendent" page of our website, wcskids.net. This year, we move into "year 2" of our instructional initiatives. I'm so excited to share our progress with you on student data tracking, learning targets, student engagement, literacy, math, Xello, and College Board accounts. When I visit you at Open Houses, I'm eager to share with you some developments in attendance monitoring that we put into place shortly after I became Superintendent.

I could not be more excited for the school year to come, and I look forward to seeing all of you around the district this fall!

Useful back-to-school safety tips from the City of Warren Police Department.

School is back, and safety is everyone’s responsibility!

Students, parents, and drivers all play an important role in keeping our school zones safe.

🚍 Stop for school buses when the red lights are flashing.
🚶 Use designated crosswalks and watch for students.
🚗 Follow school drop-off and pickup procedures.
📱 Slow down in school zones and stay alert. Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road.

Every safe trip starts with you. Let’s make safety our superpower this school year!

We love seeing the excitement and smiling faces as our newest Cougars prepare for their next big chapter. 🎒📚

Our incoming 6th graders got a sneak peek at middle school during Cougar Days at Carter Middle School this morning.

Students had the opportunity to explore the building, get familiar with their new school, meet staff and classmates, and learn what it means to be a Carter Cougar!

Several of our WCS elementary schools recently welcomed their newest students for Kindergarten Camp! 🖍️📚🍎

Our incoming kindergarteners had the opportunity to meet their teachers, explore their classrooms and get a special sneak peek at what school will be like when they begin their WCS journey next week!

The excitement is building, and we can’t wait to welcome all of our WCS students back to school on Wednesday, September 2! 💙🏫
