CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE 1918-2018

The official birthday of the Army Warrant Officer Corps is July 9, 1918, when an act of Congress established the Army Mine Planter Service as part of the Coast Artillery Corps. Implementation of the Act by the Army was published in War Department Bulletin 43, dated 22 July 1918.

In this picture from 1922 are eight of the original 40 mine planter Warrant Officers, pictured at Fort McPherson, Georgia.

Emmanuel House "A New Beginning Starts Here"

I had a spurt of the moment kind of deal where I was able to link up with retired CW4 Shane Campos, current Team RWB Detroit Chapter Captain and Nadine Jones, the Director of Love a Michigan Vet Project and was able to donate many pairs of shoes to homeless Veterans at the Emmanuel House shelter in Detroit. This is an awesome organization doing a lot for our Nations Veterans from providing food, clothing and shelter to providing medical assistance and programs to prepare these Veterans for a fresh start. If you ever get a chance, check them out and see if you can support. Thanks again Shane and Nadine for having me out.

In 1997, Emmanuel House was established in a one bedroom townhouse to assist men who were struggling with an addiction. We now operate a campus to include: Five Apartment buildings, three townhouses and three off-site single family homes.

READ ABOUT IT IN AUGUST 2017 LEGISLATIVE NEWS!!

USAWOA Applauds the huge bipartisan, bicameral effort leading to President Trump today signing into law the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017, into law, greatly enhancing and expanding the current Post 9/11 GI Bill. The August 2017 Newsliner magazine, published earlier this month, provides details of this sweeping legislation and the latest on NDAA 2018. PASSING OF A LEGEND

It is with the utmost sadness that we must report that our beloved Founder and President Emeritus CW4 (Ret) Don Hess has returned home to God. Don's son Kenny reports that he passed peacefully, at 0415 this morning.

Executive Director Jack Du Teil and Past President CW4 (Ret) Frank Stamey visited with Don last Friday for several hours, and report that among Don's last words, were his expressions of love and pride in his own family, and in the tens of thousands in his "second family," the Warrant Officer cohort, that he literally devoted half of his life in service to.

Pray for his family, in this time of grief. Pray for all of us to have the strength to follow his example of selfless service. But do so in the joyful knowledge that our dear friend has more than earned his place in heaven, with the almighty God.

Warrant Officers have been a critical part of Militaries around the world since the days of Napoleon. The U.S. Army traces its use of Warrant Officers back to 1896, but on July 9th, 1918 Congress passed legislation formally establishing the Warrant Officer Corps for the U.S. Army. For 99 years, the talented, quiet professionals of the Warrant Officer Corps/Cohort have served our Army with distinction. Happy Birthday to all of our Warrant Officers, both past and present. #99thArmyWarrantOfficerBirthday #WarrantOfficerCohort #TACOM #DetroitArsenal #EagleRising #QuietProfessional #CHIEF #MotorCity

Dear Fellow USAWOA Members:

On behalf of your National Headquarters, I am writing this note to wish each and every one of you a happy Independence Day - the day we celebrate the birth of the greatest nation in human history. Please safely enjoy it with family and friends, if your duties allow you to be with them. As always, if you are deployed, know that your families - and all your Warrant Officer brothers and sisters - anticipate your safe return, after the successful completion of your mission!

If you have been reading your NEWSLINERs, you already know that the USAWOA and its partners in The Military Coalition (TMC) have been very busy this year, working on legislative initiatives ranging from restoring full benefits to all RC Soldiers called to active duty, to key reforms affecting Veterans. In the Veterans Affairs arena alone, we have achieved victory on issues related to USAWOA Resolutions 2017-011, 2017-012, and 2017-014 (for a complete list of USAWOA's 2017 resolutions, approved at the 44th AMM, visit USAWOA 2017 Resolutions < Caution-https://woaonline.org/44thAMM/Approved44thAMMLegislationResolutions.pdf > ).

We continue to work with TMC partners and the Coalition to Save Our Military Shopping Benefits to pass important bills such as H.R. 2850, the Military Patron Protection Act (MPPA - see more on this in the upcoming July 2017 Newsliner). We are also partnering with the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) on a membership advocacy program campaign to finally end sequestration. Please take just a few moments to support these important initiatives by using the links below to contact your Members of Congress on them:
