Upcoming Old Drum Open Mic in September at Java Junction!

This is the open call for writers, composers, storytellers, memoirists, playwrights, singer/songwriters, and comedians to enroll for a performance slot in the upcoming Old Drum Open Mic. The program will take place in downtown Warrensburg at Java Junction (118 N Holden Street), from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Poems, stories, comic sketches, memoirs, and songs are usually represented in the monthly program, but play scripts and original music are also welcome. Performance slots are up to 15 minutes, but most performers require only a fraction of that time, allowing more people to participate.

You can pre-schedule your appearance by sending a personal message (PM) through this page. Please supply your name(s) and the title(s) of the pieces you would like to present.

Old Drum Open Mic is held on the first Thursday of each month in Warrensburg. The series is in its fifteenth year of providing an outlet for original works and performances, and ODOM programs are free and open to the public.

Our annual fundraiser, Eat Your Art Out, is scheduled for Saturday, October 24. This year, the theme is Halloween!

🎃 Submit scary food art! There are categories for kids, teens, and adults. There is no entry fee, but there are prizes.
🎃 Come in costume! You can perfect your look the week before Halloween.
🎃 Support the Arts Commission's Community Arts Grant program.

A Warrensburg artist is featured at the Missouri State Fair! Neat!

🚗 Arts all over Missouri: At the Fine Arts Building at the Missouri State Fair today and tomorrow, collage artist Casey Babb from Warrensburg is an artist-in-residence. As he’s making collages like “Transcendental Hunger,” he says “visitors will be able to observe the process in real time, from sourcing materials, cutting, gluing, pressing, and mixed media application. Feel free to stop by, watch me cut and paste some new work, and ask me questions along the way!”

Faculty members associated with UCM's School of Visual and Performing Arts are preparing to strut their stuff on Monday, August 24! Come see what they offer our community.

🎨Beginning at 5:00pm, the UCM Gallery of Art & Design will host the opening reception for an exhibition of faculty work.

🎶 The Provost Faculty Showcase starts at 7:00pm in Hart Recital Hall. It features faculty performances from UCM Music and University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance.

Are you a local artist who is looking for mentorship and support in your career? Are you're willing to do to a bit of driving?

Artist Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas, is hosting an eight-week workshop for artists beginning in January. They are currently accepting applications and will do so until October 14!

Hosted by Lawrence Arts Center, Artist INC Lawrence sessions run for eight-consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
