♻️ Fun Friday: Look Closely! 🔎

Recyclable plastics can sometimes hide in unexpected places!

Would you have guessed that a conditioner tube could go in the recycling? Take a closer look at the packaging and you may spot that little recycling symbol with a #5 inside.

Here in Fauquier County, we accept #1, #2 and #5 plastics. So before you toss that empty container in the trash, check for the number—you might be surprised by what you find!

💧 Empty it and give it a quick rinse.
🔎 Find the number.
🧴 Keep the lid on.
♻️ Recycle it right!

This is a wonderful post from Frederick County (MD) Division of Solid Waste and Recycling - Dolly was truly a legend and will be greatly missed. Now we need to go find those recycling songs and that episode of The Magic School Bus!

Yesterday we lost a legend...With the passing of Dolly Parton, we lost a voice for literacy, learning, curiosity, and one of our favorite conspiracy theories about her full sleeve tattoos (Not true)...But did you know Dolly had 2 Christmas-themed recycling songs?

It's true! Dolly voiced the character "Murph " on The Magic School Bus (Shout-out to the writers, with a nod to Material Recycling Facilities, called "MRFs" for short), Ms. Frizzle's cousin, on the Christmas Special all about waste diversion and recycling. Whose mind is blown?

It's a fun fact that brought a smile to our faces, as she was a gift, and her music touched on so many things that we hold near and dear. Dolly Parton is a perfect example of when we say, "You are not recyclable," that your impact and words are felt, maybe not by the world like Dolly, but in our world and community, and it matters.

Thanks for the memories and song, Dolly. We won't forget the gifts you have given us that we'll keep on giving.

For the next 12 weeks, we’re challenging families to discover simple ways to REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE at home.

Each week brings a new challenge that everyone can join in—even the youngest members of the family!

The other items pictured are accepted by Fauquier County Environmental Services—but remember, not every item is accepted at every location.

📍 Propane tanks, latex paint and car batteries are accepted at Corral Farm only.

From textiles and batteries to Christmas lights, plastic bags and film, paint, propane tanks and more, there are plenty of ways to keep items out of the trash! ♻️

Before you throw it away, check our website to see if we accept it and where to take it.

♻️ DID YOU KNOW?

Those little plastic windows on pasta boxes and envelopes do NOT need to be removed before recycling! 📦✉️

Simply make sure they are clean and empty and place them in your mixed paper recycling. The small plastic window can stay right where it is.

📦 And remember: Pasta boxes are considered mixed paper—not cardboard. Only corrugated cardboard belongs in the cardboard recycling container.

One less step makes recycling right even easier! 💚♻️

🍂 Friendly Reminder About Yard Waste! 🌿

Doing a little yard cleanup? Please remember:

📍 Yard waste is accepted ONLY at the Corral Farm Collection Site, Monday–Saturday.

🍃 Please empty all bags when dropping off leaves, grass clippings, and other accepted yard waste. Bags cannot be left with the yard waste.

🚫 Yard waste is NOT accepted at any of our remote collection sites.

🪁 LET’S GO FLY A KITE! 🌬️

Join us for a fun, hands-on morning of kite making! We’ll design and create our own kites using plastic bags and other materials found around the home—showing how we can Reduce, Reuse & Recycle and have fun while doing it!

Then we’ll head outside to our usually breezy hill and see if we can get our creations flying! ☀️🪁
