Congratulations - Cmdr. Michael Flint, the new Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria🇺🇸

A change of command ceremony was held Thursday, July 16, at Coast Guard Air Station Astoria. Rear Adm. Arex B. Avanni, Commander, District Northwest, presided over the ceremony in which Cmdr. Michael Flint relieved Capt. Neal Corbin, who served as Air Station Astoria's commanding officer since 2024.

Following the ceremony, Capt. Corbin departed for his next assignment as Incident Management Branch Chief for the Great Lakes District. Clear skies and tailwinds, Capt. Corbin!

A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria Jayhawk helicopter crew joined federal, state, and local partners this past week for a large-scale rescue exercise at Dodge Park in Sandy, Oregon.

The scenario simulated severe flooding conditions where rising water cut victims off from ground rescue teams — requiring crews to perform helicopter hoists using both a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter and an Oregon Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter. 🌲🌧

Interagency exercises like this help ensure a rapid and coordinated response to real-world emergencies across the Pacific Northwest.

Agencies involved included:
• U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria
• Clackamas Fire
• Oregon National Guard - Oregon Military Department Oregon Army National Guard Bravo Co., 1-168th Regiment & Golf Co., 1-189th Regiment
• Oregon Air National Guard 125th Special Tactics Squadron
• United States Air Force Reserve 304th Rescue Squadron
• Additional state and local partner agencies
