⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

We have been receiving a high volume of reports regarding scam phone calls. Scammers are impersonating law enforcement personnel and contacting community members about alleged warrants for their arrest, missed court dates, and outstanding fines.

Please remember: Clatsop County Deputies will never call you regarding these matters, nor will we ever request payment through gift cards, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, money transfer apps, or any other unconventional payment method.

If you receive one of these suspicious calls and are unsure of its legitimacy, hang up immediately and contact our office directly using a trusted phone number.

Please share this information with your friends and family to help protect them from scams and safeguard their personal and financial information.

During the month of May, our Search and Rescue Team conducted UTV driver training for volunteers interested in becoming certified operators. This hands-on training focused on ensuring the safe and effective operation of our UTV during missions and emergency responses.

Volunteers received an overview of the UTV, reviewed safety procedures and checklists to be completed before, during, and after missions, and participated in a driving course designed to demonstrate safe, capable vehicle operation in a variety of conditions.

We appreciate the dedication of our volunteers who continue to train and prepare to serve our community safely and professionally.

On November 29, 2025, a high-angle rescue took place on Saddle Mountain after an adult male hiker became stranded on the mountain. Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue assisted Hamlet Fire Department, Gearhart Fire Department, and Cannon Beach Fire Department in the challenging rescue operation.

The United States Coast Guard also responded and remained on scene to provide lighting support after weather conditions prevented the deployment of a rescue swimmer. After several hours of coordinated effort, the hiker was successfully rescued from the mountain.

In recognition of their outstanding teamwork, professionalism, and dedication, our SAR team members Robert Ledgerwood, Casey Gusaas, Lester Lopez and Deputy David Yelton received a Unit Citation for their efforts during this rescue. Congratulations to our SAR team — we are incredibly proud to have each of you on our team. Thank you for your continued dedication and service to our community.

During Police Week, we pause to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and quiet professionalism shown by our deputies each and every day.

The work is not always easy, and much of what is done happens behind the scenes and without recognition. Yet our deputies continue to show up...serving this community with integrity, compassion, patience, and resilience through long hours, difficult situations, and constant demands.

To the men and women who wear the badge for Clatsop County: thank you for your commitment to protecting others, supporting one another, and carrying the responsibility of this profession with humility and strength. Your efforts make a difference far beyond what most people ever see.

We are grateful for your service, your families who support you, and the sacrifices made along the way.

Stay safe, and thank you for all that you do.
