On Wednesday, June 17, at approximately 5 a.m., Warrenton officers were notified by Chief Doyle of Truesdale Police Department of a vehicle traveling around 70–80 mph on Veterans Memorial Parkway that had nearly struck construction workers before the driver abandoned the vehicle in the roundabout near Rural King and fled on foot while yelling incoherently.
Officers responded and located the individual near Warrenton Blvd and Veterans Memorial Parkway. The subject refused commands to stop and fled from officers on foot through a wooded area south of Warrenton Blvd. The subject then ran back towards Warrenton Blvd and attempted to steal a police vehicle before crossing the overpass. The individual then ran down the westbound I-70 off-ramp at Exit 191 and onto the interstate causing a hazard to oncoming traffic. Thankfully, officers were able to apprehend the individual safely under the overpass. Once secured, the individual was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation.
We would like to thank Truesdale Police Chief Casey Doyle for his quick notification and assistance, as well as the Warren County Sheriff’s Department for their support during this incident.
