Phew! August is officially over and WOW, have we been busy! ❤️

Between our Back Pack School Supply distribution, serving families at the food pantry, delivering Power Packs to schools, and bringing food to our homebound seniors, there has been A LOT going on around FISH!

And through it all, our amazing volunteers, donors, and sponsors have continued to show up and go above and beyond to make sure our neighbors have what they need.

We truly could not do what we do without YOU. ❤️ Thank you for helping us take care of our community, one neighbor at a time!

Now...on to September! 😊

Friends of FISH! ❤️ Today was a pretty special day!! We kicked off our 12th year of the Weekend Power Pack program!

If you’re new to FISH or Power Packs, here’s the quick version: every week, we pack bags of food for children in Fauquier County who may not have enough to eat when they’re away from school.

And this year, 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤.

Yep… every weekend. Every school break. Every extended holiday. Even snow days! ❄️❤️

And this year, we’re excited that Power Packs are also available at all 3 of our local libraries, creating even more accessible opportunities for families in need!

Our goal is simple: 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲.

But here’s the part where we need you.

Right now, 𝟐𝟖𝟑 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫.

That means we have a ways to go.

For $𝟐𝟓/𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, you can sponsor a child for the entire year. That’s $300 for the year (or basically less than a coffee a week☕️).

$25 might not sound like a lot. But when a bunch of us commit to $25 a month? It becomes HUGE.

Will FISH make sure every child gets fed, regardless? Of course we will. It's what we do! ❤️

But 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. It helps us know we can keep buying the food, packing the bags, and showing up for these kids week after week.

So if you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could do something to help,” this is a pretty simple way to do it.

Can you smell the fresh Basil & Dill in these photos!?

Every Thursday, the most lovely group of ladies volunteer at FISH, sorting the abundance of produce we receive each week thanks to our partnerships with Fauquier Education Farm, Oak Spring Garden Foundation, 4P Foods, and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Affectionately called our 🧚✨'Produce Fairies'🧚✨, these ladies go above and beyond to ensure our clients are greeted with a beautiful display of choices when they visit the food pantry! In addition, when we have an abundance, they put together curated boxes and deliver to our senior-living communities. It's like a mini-CSA for our older 'neighbors in need.' 🥰

We are so thankful for the ways in which this crew goes above and beyond to serve our community with dignity and care!

When our community comes together, amazing things happen! Our recent Book Bag School Supply distribution day was nothing short of spectacular!

A backpack prepares students for the classroom, but nutritious food prepares them for life. Nearly 500 children in Fauquier County, rely on Fauquier FISH's Weekend Power Pack program for food on weekends, holidays, snow days, and summer break.

We currently have 30 Power Pack Pals providing monthly support for this vital program. We need just 10 more to hit our goal of 40 before the first day of school on Wednesday!

It's receiving week! Special shout out to our friends at Highland School and all the amazing volunteers who are showing up this week to help us inventory the 1600+ bags that will be distributed on Saturday!
