SATURATION SATURDAY Results

Our additional patrol units on Saturday helped keep our roadways safe. FCSO Deputies made 7 arrests, 1 DUI arrest, 63 traffic summons, and 98 traffic stops. On Saturday night, three drivers refused to stop resulting in vehicle pursuits.

One driver was not apprehended when the pursuit was terminated by the Deputy. The second driver was partially identified by the Deputy, and the subsequent investigation located the driver who confessed and was charged.

The third driver was stopped with a PIT maneuver. Mohammad Hamdan, 22 years old and from Chantilly, Virginia was charged with felony eluding, abduction (a passenger stated she asked him to stop during the pursuit, and he refused), reckless driving, reckless driving by speed, driving without a license, and expired vehicle registration. He is being held in the Fauquier Adult Detention Center without bail.

Martinsville Mourns the Passing of Longtime Sheriff Steve Draper

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Martinsville and Henry County community is mourning the passing of longtime Martinsville City Sheriff Steve Draper, a dedicated public servant whose law enforcement career spanned more than five decades.

Draper began his career with the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office in 1973. Twenty years later, he was elected Sheriff of the City of Martinsville and officially took office on January 1, 1994.

His decades of leadership made Draper the longest-serving sheriff in the Commonwealth of Virginia, marking a career defined by dedication to law enforcement and the community he served.

For more than three decades as sheriff, Draper became a familiar and respected figure throughout Martinsville and Henry County. His influence also extended across Virginia, where he served as President of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association and held numerous other leadership roles.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office remembered Draper not only as a neighboring sheriff, but as a colleague, partner, friend and example of a life committed to public service.

Sheriff Wayne Davis and the men and women of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office extended their condolences to Draper’s family, friends and the entire Martinsville Sheriff’s Office.

Draper leaves behind a legacy extending far beyond the number of years he wore the badge. His impact can be seen through the people he served, the law enforcement officers he influenced, the partnerships he helped build and the community to which he dedicated his life.

BTW21 joins the Martinsville-Henry County community and law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth in mourning the loss of Sheriff Steve Draper and extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Rest easy, Sheriff Draper. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of service will live on throughout Martinsville, Henry County and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

UPDATE: Meetze Road is re-opened. Thank you for your patience.

ROAD CLOSED

Meetze Road is closed this morning due to an overturned tractor trailer. This occurred between Crouch Lane and Tyler Lane near CM Crockett Park. One detour is to use Rogues Road to Casanova Road and connect to Catlett Road (Route 28).

This tragic incident with a hopeful ending began at 10:15 Monday morning with a series of three separate calls in 10 minutes about a missing child. A citizen called the Fauquier County Emergency Communications Center to report that he saw through his security cameras a small child walking across his property. The second call was from the parents reporting their child was missing. The third call was from a neighbor several hundred yards up the street, who reported he saw a small child jump into a pond.

A Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office Deputy had already arrived at the first address, so quickly drove to the pond up the road. He observed several men already looking for the child in the pond.

That Deputy also entered the water and organized the quick search underwater for the child. Minutes later, one of the men found the child in several feet of water. They carried him to shore where the Deputy performed CPR.

Emergency medical staff arrived and provided continuing life-saving efforts and transported the four-year-old boy to the UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center. The child was later transported to Fairfax Hospital. As of this Friday morning he is alive and remains on life support.

We are grateful for the people who reported seeing the child and the heroic efforts of the neighborhood men who entered the pond at their own risk to find the child...and give him a chance at life.
