REPEAL
OBAMACARE
Continue to push for ObamaCare repeal and fight any attempts to bailout big insurance and the failed health care law. Following Republicans failure to pass clean ObamaCare repeal, the verdict for President Obama’s signature law is up in the air. Some Republicans now seem poised to work with Democrats to bailout the failing insurance exchanges, something ALPAC & Senator Paul adamantly oppose. With your support, ALPAC will continue to push for a vote on Senator Paul’s ObamaCare Replacement Act (S. 222/H.R. 1072) or support a vote on clean repeal, and oppose any ObamaCare bailouts. CUT TAXES
Push for bold tax cuts and a complete overhaul of the tax code – no border adjustment tax, no multiple tax brackets, just one single low rate. The tax code is now well over 70,000 pages long and Congress hasn’t passed real tax reform in decades. ALPAC will fight to remind Republicans they promised tax cuts, not revenue-neutral tax reform. It shouldn’t go to some Washington D.C. It should be left with you. A much lower, simpler tax system would have an enormous positive impact on our economy and prosperity. How could anyone be opposed to that? PASS AUDIT THE FED
Follow through with the Paul’s long push for a full audit of the Federal Reserve System.
*** Currently the GAO is prohibited by law from auditing four areas of the Federal Reserve: 1) Transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or private international financing organization; 2) Deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations; 3) Transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or 4) discussion or communication among or between members of the Board and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to three previously mentioned areas.
*** The Audit the Fed bill removes these four exemptions and is supported by nearly 75 percent of the American people.
*** Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced Audit the Fed, H.R. 24, in 115th Congress on January 3, 2017. The bill currently has 112 bipartisan cosponsors, and passed the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on March 28, 2017.
*** The Senate held a stand-alone vote on Audit the Fed, S.2232, on January 12, 2016. The bill failed to reach cloture by a vote of 53-44, a largely party-line vote. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced Audit the Fed, S.16, on January 3, 2017. The bill currently has 15 cosponsors. END CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURE
Stop the Departments of Justice’s renewed practice of civil asset forfeiture and bring back the bedrock principle of American jurisprudence – innocent until proven guilty. Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently announced the renewal of the Department of Justice’s civil asset forfeiture program, to the dismay of liberty-loving Americans everywhere. Civil asset forfeiture is when law enforcement takes your property merely under suspicion of a crime, far from “innocent until proven guilty.” If law enforcement is so eager to take property from American citizens, then they should be required to take them to court and convict them of a crime. LET FISA SECTION 702 EXPIRE
Stop renewal of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which allows for the unconstitutional dragnet surveillance of Americans. It expires at the end of the year. FISA Section 702 allows for the unconstitutional collection of records, for the length of one year, of American citizens who may have been in contact with a foreigner. Although this program is not allowed to target Americans, it is believed that thousands of Americans records are scooped up in association. The collection of these records is usually done with a blanket warrant. The Fourth Amendment strictly forbids this type of blanket warrant, and was written to specifically protect Americans from this type of unlawful surveillance.
2018 MIDTERMS
Prepare for the 2018 midterm elections. Candidates have already started announcing their intentions to run, and ALPAC needs to have the resources to help pro-liberty candidates win. We are already analyzing several key 2018 races and pro-liberty candidates including Eric Brakey for U.S. Senate in Maine, as well as primary challengers for Senator Dean Heller of Nevada and Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona.
