Courthouse Update: 4:12pm

Tomorrow the courthouse will be open as usual with one exception. The walkway and grass area on the West side of the front door will be barricaded off. Do not enter that area!!! This is to provide a safety zone around the column/columns that have been compromised from the car striking the building.

Update on courthouse incident from this morning.

The Gallatin County Courthouse is closed due to an incident earlier today. Safety precautions are in place and the building will remain closed until a structural inspection can be performed and evaluated. District Court for Tuesday, 8/18/2026, has been canceled. New court dates will be scheduled and notices will be mailed out. We will post about reopening as soon as we know more details.

The Gallatin County Courthouse is currently closed. A vehicle ran into the front of the building. We will update when we know further. Waiting on structural engineer for evaluation.

We’re hours away from the first day back. As usual we ask parents to speak with their children about basic safety, the dangers of electronics, and see something say something. This year parents and students need to be aware of some significant changes to KY law that can protect children and staff. These changes will land you in some hot water if you violate them. We have generated a couple illustrations below to highlight a couple but recommend you go to KY Legislature website to review these laws in their entirety. As always our SRO’s will be available to help if any problems should arise. Welcome back everyone and have a great year!

Today shortly before 4:00pm a tornado warning was issued for Gallatin County. First responders responded to the area of the warning near the Gallatin County Airport and confirmed a funnel cloud that touched down just South of the runway. The tornado damaged trees on airport property before going over the hill crossing Hwy 467 and Eagle Creek into Owen County. As the funnel cloud crested over the hill it appeared to intensify, as you can see from drone footage there is significant damage to trees between Sparta and Sanders on Hwy 467 West. The house at the bottom of the hill by miracle only appears undamaged. Hwy 467 is closed while KYTC removes trees from the roadway.

Note: This has not been confirmed by NWS but it seems highly likely it will be in the days ahead.
