The Kosciusko County Emergency Management Agency is dedicated to help our community mitigate, prepare, respond, and recover from either a manmade or natural disaster. If you are a group from a church, neighborhood, business, or any other service group call for information.

Scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms are expected through mid afternoon today from northwest IN to south central Lower Michigan. Otherwise, it will become warmer and more humid early this week. Heat indices by Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to reach around 100 degrees.

A few showers may develop later tonight north of the Toll Road and persist into Sunday morning. Otherwise mainly dry conditions are expected into mid week with the heat and humidity returning.

A warming trend begins today that will lead to high temperatures by Sunday in the middle 80s and from the upper 80s to lower 90s for Monday through Wednesday. Heat indices from 95 to 100 are expected Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Isolated showers are possible tonight and Sunday, but otherwise mainly dry conditions persist through early next week.

⚡ CERT POST OF THE DAY — DOWNED POWER LINES ⚡
After a storm, crash, or other emergency, a downed power line may not look dangerous — but always assume it is LIVE.
🚨 If you see a downed power line:
⚡ Stay at least 30 feet away — farther if the ground is wet.
🚗 If a power line falls on your vehicle, STAY INSIDE unless there is an immediate danger such as fire.
👣 Never walk through water near downed lines or damaged electrical equipment.
🌳 Don't touch a tree, fence, vehicle, or other object that is touching a power line. Electricity can travel through them.
📞 Call 911 and report the location. Let trained utility and emergency personnel handle it.
🔥 If you MUST exit a vehicle because of fire:
Jump clear without touching the vehicle and ground at the same time. Land with your feet together, then shuffle away with small steps, keeping your feet close together.
💡 CERT CHALLENGE:
Do the people in your household know what to do if a power line lands on your vehicle?
Knowing before an emergency happens can make all the difference.

Pleasant conditions are in store this weeked with a warming trend beginnning the second half of the weekend. There is a low chance of a shower or thunderstorm north of the Toll Road late Sunday night, but mainly dry conditions are expected.

Unfortunately, there are no signs of fall as we look towards the start of meteorological fall. Hot and humid weather will return next week. Above normal temperatures are favored for the first week of September with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s possible.
