We wanted to break down some of the science behind why we have been mild and dry lately! We will likely continue our prolonged dry stretch for at least the next 7 days across the Northeast, Mississippi River Valley, and Great Lakes regions as a dominant Omega Block pattern sets up. This is a largely stagnant pattern (that looks like the uppercase Greek letter Omega Ω in the upper levels, hence the name) where sinking air associated with the large upper level ridge keeps regions underneath it dry. We expect dry and mild conditions through the end of the month, with a potential flip to become more active right around Halloween and into November.
