🍩🍩🍩 June 5th is National doughnut day 🍩🍩 Here is a fun little ad that was in The Wyoming County Times in June 1947 and a recipe from the Silver Springs Signal from March 10, 1910. The day was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor those who served doughnuts to the troops during World War 1.

🧀🧀🧀 June 4th is National Cheese Day!! 🧀🧀🧀
As we all know, Wyoming County is full of cows, and something had to be done with excess milk. Luckily, one man from Ireland helped with this!
Wyoming County was home to George Hoy (1832-1892) who was known as the “cheese king” who is credited with opening the first cheese factory west of Herkimer County in 1864. He at one time owned 19 establishments known as the Johnsonburg Combination Cheese Factories.
The typical factory closed in the winter months and produced around 100,000 lbs of cheese a year. Because of the traffic to and from the factories, roads were greatly improved and other businesses such as cheese box manufacturing sprung up in the county as well.

Happy Birthday to Castile’s Doughboy 🥳
Dedicated on May 31, 1926, it is only one of two in New York State (Harrison, Westchester County is the other) and only of 136 across the country. Designed by E.M. Viquesney to honor those who served during WW1.
Funds were raised by the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post #753, and placed at Main & Washington Streets for all to see and pay their respects.

Happy birthday! 🎈🎊🎁🎉 Today, May 19 marks the big day. Formed in 1841 from mostly Genesee County, comprised of 16 towns, with Warsaw as the county seat.

So if you “need” an excuse to have a piece of cake 🍰 or ice cream cake 🍰 now you have one 😁😉🥳
