We had a special visitor at the Wartrace Fire Department this afternoon. This young lady just also happens to have a birthday today. Her wish was to come and see our fire trucks. Mom and dad made her wishes happen today. We here at the Wartrace Fire Department would like to wish this young lady a Happy 3rd Birthday!!!

If you or your child(ren) would like to see the fire trucks, feel free to message us.

🚒💧 DID YOU KNOW? FIRE HYDRANT COLORS HAVE A PURPOSE.

Those colors on a fire hydrant are not just for appearance. They help firefighters quickly identify a hydrant’s flow classification and potential water supply during an emergency.

According to NFPA 291, hydrant bonnet and nozzle cap colors are commonly used to indicate flow capacity:

🔵 Blue – 1,500+ GPM
🟢 Green – 1,000–1,499 GPM
🟠 Orange – 500–999 GPM
🔴 Red – Less than 500 GPM

You may also see:

🟣 Purple (Violet) – Non-potable or reclaimed water
⚪ White – Drafting hydrant (local designation)
⚫ Black – Out of service (local designation)

⚠️ Keep in mind that hydrant markings can vary depending on the local water utility or jurisdiction.

Why does this matter?

When firefighters arrive at a fire, they must quickly determine if a hydrant can provide enough water to support firefighting operations. Knowing the hydrant’s flow classification helps crews make faster decisions and establish an effective water supply.

🚫 Never park in front of a fire hydrant.
🚫 Never block access to a hydrant.

A hydrant that cannot be accessed quickly can delay firefighting operations when every second counts.

Fire is fast.
Water supply matters.

Alright folks, the holiday weekend will be here before you know it and we know most of you will be hitting the waterways but before you hit the water, please make sure that you have your life jacket on. It does no good if it isn't on. We don't ever like getting a call saying we need you and your team(s). It is very devastating to know that someone may have lost a family member. So please be sure to put that life jacket on no matter how well you think you can swim.

Happy EMS Week!

This EMS Week, we proudly recognize the dedicated professionals of Bedford County EMS who serve our community with skill, compassion, and commitment every single day.

From the moment a 9-1-1 call is placed, improving patient outcomes takes teamwork—dispatchers, EMTs, paramedics, first responders, nurses, physicians, and support staff all working together with one common goal: providing the best possible care for our patients.

At Bedford County EMS, we are proud to be part of that team and honored to serve this community 24/7/365.

To every member of our EMS family—thank you for the sacrifices you make, the compassion you show, and the lives you impact.

We would like to thank Mrs. Littrell from Cascade Elementary School for our annual end of year celebration for the Kindergarten class. We always enjoy seeing the children smile and say that they had the best time of their lives. Each year, we are thankful to bring so many smiles to each child's face.
