OPEN POST TO ALL CLIENTS: We are living in an unprecedented time, I appreciate your patience as we navigate the unknown. Over the past week I have assisted many clients with the processing of SBA Disaster Loan applications. I advised all business clients to get an application in ASAP. The details for the loan forgiveness and payback are still being ironed out. I would prefer you have an application in process. The processing of the applications will take months to process, however, will be retroactive back to February 15th. These loans would assist with overhead, including payroll expenses. Please only use https://www.sba.gov/disaster-assistance/coronavirus-covid-19 link to obtain the application. Beware of scams - Be sure the extension of any SBA website is .gov
Unemployment benefits for the independent contractor/self employed are available with the passing of the most recent stimulus program. The application could be up on the Department of Labor website as soon as tomorrow. If you filed a schedule C and are self-employed – this includes realtors, hair dressers, contractors… fill in your application as soon as possible. The caveat with this program is it is based on your net (after expenses) taxable income reported on your most recent filed tax return (2018 or 2019).
Individual stimulus checks will be based on your most recent filed tax return (2018 or 2019) and are subject to income limitations. $1,200 per individual and $500 per child. The phase out of this benefit begins at $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for Married filing joint. Although this benefit is based on your most recent tax filing, your 2020 tax return will be the return that determines if any of this stimulus payment will need to be repaid and/or taxed. Planning on your 2020 tax return will need to be watched closely as the details are ironed out.
Finally, two major developments that could help a lot of my clients – the early withdrawal penalty on retirement accounts have been removed for 2020. Student Loan payments are suspended until October and interest is being suspend and/or deferred.
There are many developments happening literally overnight. Please beware that as developments are happening so aren’t scams. Beware and when in doubt ask… a simple email or text could save you.
Please be well and stay healthy!!!
