Our condolences to the Quilty family and friends.

Timothy “Tim” J. Quilty, 77, of Morganton, NC, and formerly of Warwick, RI, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 19, 1948, he was the son of the late George F. Quilty and Christina A. Walsh Quilty.
Tim was a US Marine Corps (1st Air Wing) veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two tours. He then went on to serve as a lieutenant with the Warwick Fire Department for 22 years. He enjoyed flea markets and auctions, and he was known as the joke-man of the community.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Angela Woodworth Quilty; son, Timothy W. Quilty; daughter, Christina Quilty; and a sister, Betty.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by a brother, George; and two sisters, Peggy and Mary.
The family will receive friends from 11am until noon, Friday, February 20, 2026 at Burkemont Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at noon in the church with the Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Toys for Tots in honor of Timothy Quilty.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

While you may have heard, the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act (S. 237) was included in the final Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is now law.

As the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I worked hard to make sure that this bill was included in the final NDAA, and I am delighted we could deliver on this important priority for our firefighters. The Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act expands access to federal benefits under the Public Safety Officers' Benefits (PSOB) program to cover firefighters and other first responders who die or become permanently and totally disabled due to exposure-related cancers.

I recognize how hard Rhode Island's firefighters and first responders work, and the sacrifices they make every day to keep our communities safe. Please know that I will continue to fight for legislation and federal funding that supports our state's fire departments.

Sincerely,

Jack Reed

United States Senator
