On Monday April 27th at around 1830hrs, members were getting ready for our weekly drill and conducting truck checks when the Department was dispatched to a 2nd alarm fire in the Greenwood Lake Fire Department. Initially dispatched as the FAST truck, TL633 was reassigned as a truck company and immediately put into tower ops upon arrival due to the large volume of fire. The crew of TL633 remained on scene for approximately 4 hours rotating members in the bucket and performing overhaul.

This evening the department held our monthly extrication drill. Members practiced skills on extricating victims from an overturned vehicle. Motor vehicle accidents can be extremely dangerous not only for the victims inside but also members of the fire department, making it important to master these skills.

Last night members of the Goodwill Hook & Ladder Co. 1 and Excelsior Hose Company conducted a joint drill on Ice Rescue. Certified rescue swimmers and ice rescue technicians took to the brisk water keeping their skills sharp on a chilly night. A big thanks to Warwick EMS for providing their rehab bus for the swimmers to change and stay warm. REMINDER: no ice is safe ice. Be sure to check and obey all signs before entering any ice covered body of water.

On February 2nd members of the Goodwill Hook and Ladder Company were attending our weekly drill at station 4 near the Town of Chester border. While at the drill at approximately 8:04PM Warwick FD was dispatched as a FAST (firefighter assist search team) to a reported structure fire located in the Town of Chester just over the town line. Members quickly responded to the call and arrived on scene within minutes of dispatch. Due to the company being so close to the call we were first due and the crew went straight to work. Members quickly and efficiently made entry into the residence where they were met with heavy fire. Crews held back the fire until other units arrived on scene and assisted with extinguishing the fire. The actions and quick response of the crew helped preserve life and the property itself.

– Help out your local fire department. Keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice. In
case of fire, firefighters need to be able to quickly access the hydrants.
