WASECA, MN- The Waseca County Chapter of the Salvation Army announces plans to support school age children in Waseca County with multiple backpack school supply “Stuff A Bus” drives this summer, culminating with a distribution to families in mid-August.
Recognizing the increasing cost for families to provide necessary school supplies, the Waseca County Chapter of the Salvation Army has chosen to use funds from the December 2025 First Responder Bell Ringing Challenge at Waseca Walmart to fund a school supply drive for kids in the Waseca, New Richland and Janesville School Districts.
On two consecutive Saturdays- July 18th and July 25th 2026, Palmer Bus Service will provide a bus at Waseca Walmart, 2103 North State Street, from 10 AM to 6 PM. The bus will be staffed by local members of the Waseca County Salvation Army Committee. School supply lists will be available for shoppers to choose donations while shopping for drop-off at the bus upon exiting the store. Cash donations will also be accepted in a red kettle on-site.
On Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 at Waseca’s Night to Unite at the Waseca Waterpark from 5-7 PM, attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate before entering the waterpark. Palmer Bus Service will again supply a bus to collect donations.
Distribution of backpacks and supplies will take place the week of August 10th-15th at the Minnesota Valley Action Council Offices located at 108 10th Ave SE in Waseca. Backpacks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 8-4:30 PM M-F and 9-12 AM on Saturday the 15th. Recipients must be residents of Waseca County.
We encourage the community to support these efforts, as all dollars and supplies raised go directly back to local assistance programs.
Anyone with questions is asked to call Kerri at 507-835-8240.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 15th 2026, Waseca Police responded to a 911 call reporting a possibly deceased person in the area of the Doodlebug Trail and Loon Lake. Upon arrival, Officers confirmed the 71 year old male was deceased. Officers processed the scene and with assistance from the Waseca Fire Department, removed the victim from the scene into the care of a funeral home to be transported for autopsy.

Earlier today, preliminary autopsy reports received indicate the male died of accidental causes. There was never any indication at the scene of criminal activity or foul play, which autopsy confirmed.

To provide the family privacy and respect, we do not expect to release more information to the public unless there is a need to seek more information for the ongoing investigation.

Our condolences are with the family of the victim.

We celebrated the 2026 DARE graduation with a great 5th grade class. It was wonderful to see all the families support at the Waseca Intermediate School. A few fantastic essays were read by students on what they learned during the 10 week program. Det. Wellman and Sgt. Luiken enjoyed teaching this hard-working and enthusiastic class on the importance of good decision making. Thank you to all the students for participating!

Happy Spring, Waseca! 🎉☀️☀️☀️💐

We've had quite a few questions about e-scooters, 🛴 e-bikes and the like! We've also had a few complaints about riders on them...*cough* PARENTS....talk to your kids about safe cruising, or send them our way 👮and we can chat with them before they have an uh-oh moment. 🤕🚑🩼 We want everyone to be safe!

We created a handy reference chart for you at the link below. Please take a look and make sure you are taking personal responsibility for using your ride correctly! Here's a quick peek 👀: E-Motos (no pedals, throttle only, capable of 30 mph +) are considered motorcycles and require a license, insurance and motorcycle endorsement!
