Potter’s Farm is a non-profit educational and spiritual center located on 45 beautiful acres of meadows and woods in the town of Washburn, near the City of Washburn in Bayfield County, the northernmost county in Wisconsin. For those who share our deep respect of the land and living in harmony and peace with nature, the farm is open to hosting your classes, retreats, meetings, small weddings and mo
re. Presently the original craftsmen-period buildings are updated to enhance their ability to serve the circles who gather. Our barn has a new front wall with more windows, a stage, improved lighting, and a wood burning stove. The farmhouse sports an additional large dormer to create more sleeping space, along with a rebuilt porch. We added a yurt which houses our caretakers. Most of the Farm acreage is wooded with walking paths winding between a mix of northern hardwoods and two stunning Cathedral pine plantations. A beautiful, open meadow overlooks Chequamegon Bay and visitors can enjoy a lovely groundwater fed pond dug for the early farm operations. The rest is cared for as ceremonial space (medicine wheels and the labyrinth). Potter’s Farm has been connected with the local community for decades since Diane Brander envisioned and established it back in the early 90s. She and her husband, Bob Brander were the driving force that created Potter’s Farm as a non-profit center. Our inspiration comes from the namesake of this land and its original owners Greta and Alden Potter. Alden was an osteopath who desired to live in harmony with the land and use it to provide for his family and the community. Greta was a writer and published inspiring nature poetry about the farm and the greater Bayfield County area. The Center seeks to maintain a “home like” feeling, creating spaces that blend in with and focus on the natural resources of the land while still meeting the needs of its guests. Just as it was when Alden Potter grew fruits and vegetables here and fed the families of Washburn, the center desires to feed, fuel, and foster the hearts and minds of the greater Washburn community through our programs and land resources. This untapped treasure will benefit those looking to create change in themselves, their families, and their organizations.
