Bayfield County homeowners and renters affected by the April 13–23, 2026 severe storms and flooding may qualify for federal disaster assistance. If a home or personal property was damaged, residents must apply before the August 31, 2026, deadline. FEMA representatives will be on-site at the Bayfield County Emergency Operations Center, 115 E 6th Street, this Friday and Saturday (August 14–15) from 9 AM to 5 PM to help residents sign up for assistance.

The “Clean Sweep” program is one of my favorite examples of productive governance. This free service is a valuable opportunity to dispose of potentially hazardous items in your household without endangering our sanitation workers or polluting our environment. Last year when this event was held in the City of Washburn, residents lined up around the block to participate. This year’s Clean Sweep will be held at the Bayfield County Fairgrounds in Iron River to further expand the program's accessibility.
