ATTENTION: Funding Now Available for Storm-Affected Residents in Ashland & Bayfield Counties

The Lake Superior Area REALTORS® (LSAR) has secured funding through the national REALTORS® Relief Foundation (RRF) to assist residents of Ashland and Bayfield Counties, Wisconsin, who sustained property damage or displacement from recent storm systems. Eligible residents may apply for up to $1,000 per household. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The application is due July 15, 2026.

RRF grants are intended to cover immediate housing costs, including mortgage payments, temporary rental expenses, and hotel reimbursement. Qualifying applicants include homeowners, with or without a mortgage, who sustained damage; renters who signed a new lease due to storm displacement; and renters who were evacuated or incurred lodging costs. Grants apply to primary residences only.

NOTICE - BEGINNING TOMORROW:
As part of the ongoing effort to improve water quality, the City of Washburn Utilities Department will conduct hydrant flushing on the city’s water mains, beginning on Monday, May 11th and continuing until Friday, May 29th, from 7 AM to 3:30 PM daily.

Location: Flushing begins at the highest point of the water system and moves downward through the system.

Purpose of Flushing: Water Mains are flushed to remove stagnant water and minimize the sediments and scale that accumulate in all water systems and affect the aesthetic quality of a public water supply.

Avoid Cloudy or Discolored Water:
If you notice hydrant flushing taking place in your neighborhood, please avoid running water inside your home. By not using water from the tap (hot or cold) or running appliances that use water (dishwasher and washing machines), you can prevent discolored water from entering your household plumbing system altogether.

After flushing is completed on your street if you find cloudy or discolored water within household plumbing. The only way to clear up discolored water within the interior plumbing of a building is by letting faucets run (for 10 to 20 minutes) to purge the system of the undesirable water.

Discolored water is caused by naturally occurring iron minerals that are disturbed during the flushing process. This water disturbance is not a health threat. If discolored water continues after letting your faucets run for 20 minutes, please contact the Washburn Utilities (715)373-6055 or [email protected].
