Public health is all health: physical, environmental, mental, social and emotional.

When we talk about healthy outlets, we often talk about movement, exercise, or spending time in parks and nature. But sometimes a healthy outlet is as close as your art supplies.

Creating art can help us slow down, focus on the present, express and process difficult feelings, regulate our nervous systems and connect with others. The artists joining us for this year’s A Light in the Dark Glow Walk understand that power and are passionate about sharing it with others.

Megan Downing, founder of MINKED ART, views art as a form of meditation and encourages others to discover their own artistic paths. Rachel and Eric of Biers Run Mudd use their work to reach others with intention, hope and joy. Landen and Val of Peculiar Prints & Pieces advocate for mental health awareness and create playful, hands-on ways for children and adults to support sensory regulation. Lexi Smith, an artist with White Fence Gallery, creates from the heart and believes art can inspire kindness, strength and self-expression.

They will bring that passion to the glow walk for mental health and su***de prevention awareness through a community mural, face painting, pocket hugs, sensory fidgets and an interactive banner display.

Whatever self-care, regulation and healing look like for you, we hope you’ll join us, gather information and ideas, connect with others and learn how you can be part of building a Community of Hope.

Two of our staff paid tribute to a legend today, and believe it or not, this was not planned!

Molly and Donna clearly take Dolly’s advice:
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

She gave the world music and laughter (and rhinestones!) and showed us just how far kindness can travel. Her generosity put books into the hands of millions of children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Her legacy will keep arriving in mailboxes in Fayette County, one book at a time.

We will always love you, Dolly. 💗
