Yesterday, the Legendary George Frye worked his last shift at the House of Flame! George
was the epitome of the term âSenior Manâ and set the standard for members of both companies on all shifts. His work ethic and knowledge were unmatched and we will truly miss his presence both on the streets and in the house. Good Luck on your Retirement George! Well Deserved!

Engine Company 11 Celebrated 125 years of service today. Many past members were able to attend to break some bread and share some stories of the âgood olde daysâ with us! Shout out to for coming out to snap some cool shots for us!
The members of Engine Co. 11 and Truck Co. 6 wish to congratulate Lieutenant Djante Rodgers on his Promotion to Captain. Captain Rodgers will be joining a great team and serving as the Captain of the Fleet Maintenance Division. This division is vital to keeping the departmentâs apparatus on the street. We know he will do very well in his new role. Thank you for your service to the House of Flame!
Beautiful Day to get some Painting done in preparation for our 125th Anniversary. In addition to responding to calls, the members of Engine 11 & Truck 6 take great pride in maintaining their home away from home.
Congratulations to Battalion Chief Lou Carter and Sergeant Wayne Hairston on 30 years of exceptional service to the DC Fire Department! Chief Carter is currently the 4th Battalion Fire Chief and Sgt. Hairston spent over 25 years assigned to the house. Tonight members of the house gathered to celebrate their accomplishment with them!

It is an honor to announce the retirement of Steve McKnight from the District of Columbia Fire Department. On Thursday members of the department came together to celebrate his retirement at the quarters of Engine 11 & Truck 6. A special thanks to YZ for putting together an awesome spread!
Steve McKnight served the citizens of the City for the past 25 years and also as the Truck Driver of Truck Company No. 6 for the past 11 years. Steve was an excellent Fireman, Truck Technician, Teacher, Jokester and Friend. Although his time driving the Truck has come to an end he will continue to be a part of the House of Flame family. Thanks for all you have done for the house!
Just after midnight 4th Battalion units were alerted to a fire in the 5800 blk of Georgia Ave NW. First arriving units found fire showing from the porch with extension to the 2nd floor and Cockloft areas. Engine 11 operated as the 3rd due Engine and extinguished the bulk of the cockloft fire. Great job by Platoon 2!

On October 11th, 1918, Private William H. Richards, of Engine Co. 11, died of influenza contracted in the Line of Duty.
11 Engine went to work on a 12 box yesterday as the working fire engine in the unit block of Bryant st NW.

D.C. Fire and EMS firefighters hauled ladders down an alley to reach trapped residents, some who were screaming and one who was hanging from a balcony.
On April 7, 2017, Brother Charles "Rick" Gentilcore died in the line of duty after suffering a medical emergency while working at Fire Station 15. Rick was a beloved member of Local 1664 and MCFRS. He is survived by his wife Virginia and son Todd.
Please take a moment today to remember Rick and his eternal sacrifice. May you continue to rest in peace Brother.

Early morning job for the fellas on 14th Street!
Congratulations to Sgt. Jerome Draper on his retirement from the DC Fire Department after almost 29 years. Sgt. Draper was loved by all and took great care of the men of the 4th Battalion. The job was better because of you. You will be missed!
Engine 11, Truck 6 and BFC 4 responded on the box to the 1200 blk of Girard St NW. On arrival, crews found fire on the 3rd floor of a 3 story middle of the row, rowhome with extension to the roof. Fire was quickly knocked by the first arriving companies.
A run on the NE side of the city allowed Engine 11 the opportunity to educate one of our of our new members on some of the history of the D.C. Fire Department. The Obleisk pictured is located in Glenwood Cemetery and marks the final resting place of FF Benjamin G Grenup. FF Grenup is the first officially recognized LODD of the DC Fire Deprtment.
