Tonight we remember the wave of anti-Semitic violence that spread through our country 83 years ago. The atrocities committed against Jews during the 'Night of Broken Glass' #OTD in 1938 must never be forgotten.
Earlier today, #Austria’s Shoah Wall of Names Memorial was officially inaugurated. It bears the names of over 64,400 🇦🇹 Jews murdered in the Holocaust.
Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg:
“We looked away for so long until we became aware of our role as perpetrators and of our responsibility steaming from it. Now we are setting a visible sign that we acknowledge the darkest chapter of our history and that we take responsibility.”
“With these Shoah walls of names, we save their names and their history from oblivion. We give them back their identity, their individuality and thus a part of their human dignity.”
