▶️ POISON PILLS EP 5: This was not “choice.”

In 2024, an Ohio woman says her boyfriend, UTMC medical resident Hassan Abass, held her down and forced crushed abortion pills into her mouth after she told him she was pregnant and wanted to keep the baby.

She tried to call 911. He took her phone and hung up the call. She drove herself to the ER. She was bleeding. The baby did not survive.

Abbas’s medical license was suspended, and he later pleaded no contest to four felonies, including unlawful distribution of an abortion-inducing drug, identity fraud, and deception to obtain a dangerous drug.

With fewer safeguards and unregulated mail-order access, abortion pills become a weapon in the hands of abusive men.

AUL's Sarah Zagorski Jones was quoted in a TIME magazine article about Trump’s nomination of Dr. Heidi Overton for U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner, saying,

“We believe Dr. Overton has an opportunity to help strengthen restrictions on the chemical abortion regimen.”

Dr. Heidi Overton is a physician and board-certified specialist in public health with a strong pro-life perspective. She celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade as a “huge victory for life” and has written critically about the dangers of chemical abortion pills and efforts to expand their access.

▶️ POISON PILLS EP 4: Within days of taking the abortion pill, everything went black for 18-year-old Californian Holly Patterson.

Planned Parenthood prescribed the pills to her, claiming they were safe and to expect some cramping and bleeding, but nothing dangerous.

That's when the pain became intense. Holly developed a catastrophic bacterial infection that triggered septic shock. She died days later.

Her father spoke out, warning that women are not being fully informed. At least 36 women have died from abortion pill complications. Thousands more have suffered serious adverse events.

Women deserve the truth. No slogans, and no euphemisms. Chemical abortion carries real risks. Holly Patterson should still be here.

We’re talking with executive directors and key staff about the hands-on training, policy briefings, and opportunity to meet Members of Congress and their staff in Washington DC, next June at our 2027 Pregnancy Center Hill Day. From learning how to tell their center’s story to practicing those conversations, this event equips the people on the front lines of the pro-life movement.

▶️POISON PILLS EP 3: After seeing her baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound, a woman in Parker County, Texas experienced heavy bleeding from abortion pills covertly given to her by her boyfriend, Justin Banta, resulting in the death of her baby.

No consent. No choice. No warning.

Chemical abortion pills give abusive men an easy weapon to wield against women and their babies. Stories like this are becoming impossible to ignore.

Ian, originally from Roselle Park, New Jersey, is currently a student at Ave Maria School of Law in Florida. A lifelong advocate for what is good, true, and beautiful, he brought that same passion to the fight for life.

From 2019 to 2023, Ian served our country in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Through that service, he received a profound gift: a renewal of his Catholic faith. He then carried that faith and advocate’s heart into his work with AUL, helping defend the preborn.

We are deeply grateful for Ian’s dedication, perspective, and service this summer. Thank you for everything you contributed to the mission, Ian!
