Today, we celebrate Constitution Day and the foundational document of our government. For more than 200 years it has protected the First Amendment rights we hold dear and made our country the greatest country in history. Its principles of liberty, individual rights, and limited government continue to define our nation.

These freedoms stand in stark contrast to the authoritarian rule of the Chinese Communist Party, which suppresses free speech, religious liberty, political expression, and other fundamental rights.

The Select Committee remains committed to defending the foundational principles of America and ensuring our country is prepared to confront those who seek to undermine our security and democratic institutions.

Jimmy has been a tireless leader for the people of Hong Kong in their fight for freedom and liberty. Chairman Congressman John Moolenaar issued the following statement after meeting with a delegation of Taiwanese legislators from the Kuomintang (KMT) political party:

"Taiwan is a strong economic partner of the United States and it makes many products the American people use every day. That’s why it is encouraging to see Taiwan’s leaders coalescing around a crucial defense strategy. The KMT-led budget recently enacted in Taiwan will increase support for critical drone capabilities, however, the politicization and delay of Taiwan's increased defense spending has raised concerns among Taiwan’s partners. It will be essential for the KMT to follow through and deliver the resources needed to deliver on Taiwan’s plans to build critical defense capabilities. The CCP – which has never ruled Taiwan – has increased its harassment of Taiwan in recent months with cyberattacks, intrusions, and military exercises. As chairman of the Select Committee, I have met with members of the leading parties in Taiwan, and we all share the belief there is an urgent need to strengthen Taiwan’s defense.”
