This week, a delegation of Emerging Leaders from the US is in Europe on a study visit focused on transport and innovation. The visit takes place in the scope of the EU-US Emerging Leaders Visitors Programme.

In Brussels, the group is engaging with colleagues from the EU institutions to exchange views on the future of sustainable mobility, digital transformation, and innovation policy. The programme then continues in Riga, where participants meet with representatives from relevant ministries to learn about Latvia’s approaches to transport development and fostering a dynamic innovation ecosystem.

These exchanges provide a valuable opportunity to share experiences, build professional networks, and strengthen mutual understanding across the Atlantic. Programmes such as these play an essential role in fostering lasting partnerships and reinforcing the strong transatlantic relationship that underpins our shared prosperity and common future.

On June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan gave voice to a hope shared across the Atlantic: a Europe whole and free. The Berlin Wall fell. Our partnership has endured.

Last week, we hosted a magical reception at the Library of Congress to mark the donation of these books to the American people. Thank you to those who joined us! Learn more about the book collection at the link in our bio.

Oil prices may have risen because of the Iran conflict, but they will not save Russia's economy. Windfall gains were significantly offset by a stronger currency and subsidy payments to oil companies and refiners.

In the first four months of 2026, Russia's budget deficit reached 5.9 trillion roubles, already far above the 3.8 trillion planned for the whole year. More than 200,000 businesses have closed since January. Interest rates remain high. Corporate debt has nearly doubled since the full-scale invasion. Labor shortages are persistent, taxes are rising, and domestic demand is falling.

EU sanctions, now 20 packages in force, continue to restrict Russia's access to technology, finance, logistics and energy markets, imposing long-term structural costs. Higher oil prices give Russia short-term breathing space. They do not fix the structural damage. The pressure continues.

What a week at Berkshire International Film Festival! 🎥🌟

Five brilliant European directors. Five breathtaking films. Seeing this cohort of Transatlantic Stars captivate audiences in the Berkshires was nothing short of electric. We brought these award-winning films to an American audience that would otherwise never get to see them.

On stage at the Transatlantic Perspectives panel, they broke down the realities of crossing borders with their art and building the cross-cultural connections that make global cinema possible.

Off stage at the Directors Retreat, they found the rarest thing at any festival: sanctuary. Real space to breathe, reflect, bond, and prepare for the whirlwind of meetings ahead in L.A.

The tour continues. Next stop: D.C. Join us and meet the filmmakers at State of the Arts Night tonight! 🇪🇺🇺🇸 RSVP here: https://t.co/wnfpy1Og1E

When American soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy in 1944, Europe’s liberation was no longer a distant hope. It had reached our shores.

D-Day reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and resolve that helped liberate a continent—and of the bond that still connects us today.

From 450 million Europeans, thank you.
