We had the incredible opportunity to join Wells Fargo’s public affairs team for a lunch and learn event, where members from their government relations, communications, philanthropy, community impact, and marketing teams connected with recent $100,000 grant recipients to discuss our impactful work in the region.

✨ Highlights:

• Presentation on the Wells Fargo Foundation’s community initiatives.

• A powerful panel featuring our own Yvette Thomas alongside Walda Yon (LEDC), Walkiria Pool (Centro de Apoyo Familiar), and Dan Passon (DC Affordable Law Firm).

A huge shoutout to Yvette Thomas, our Home Ownership Center Director, and all the panelists for their valuable insights. Feature Friday: Meet the Families We've Helped!

Every Friday, we're shining a spotlight on the incredible families we've had the privilege to support on their journey toward homeownership. Today, we want to introduce you to Ms. Godwin who worked with our Home Ownership Center for two years to become a homeowner.

Russhawn Godwin's journey to homeownership is nothing short of inspiring. As a native Washingtonian, she navigated life's challenges, working tirelessly as a night auditor while balancing the responsibilities of single parenthood. Russhawn dreamt of providing a haven for her family but faced hurdles in the daunting process of buying a home in DC.

Amidst her struggles, Manna, Inc and one of our partners, Homes by CFE, stepped in to offer crucial support. With guidance from our Home Ownership Center staff and resources provided by Homes by CFE's Down Payment Assistance Program, Russhawn found herself on the path to homeownership.

Today, Russhawn and her family have found solace in their new home, a sanctuary where cherished memories are made. Through homeownership, Russhawn embraces newfound financial stability and the freedom to create a space uniquely her own. Most importantly, she remains rooted in the city she loves.

🏡 April is National Fair Housing Month, and here at Manna, Inc we're committed to promoting housing equality and ensuring fair housing practices in our community! 🌟

Our dedicated housing counselors recently had the opportunity to participate in the Fair Housing Symposium hosted by the Office of Housing and Urban Development. 📚 Throughout the symposium, they gained invaluable insights into various aspects of fair housing, including the basics, reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, and the significance of fair housing partners.

We believe that everyone deserves equal access to housing opportunities, regardless of their background or circumstances. By staying informed and educated on fair housing laws and practices, we're better equipped to serve our community and advocate for housing justice.

From understanding the importance of reasonable accommodations to building strong partnerships within the fair housing network, our team is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable housing environment for all.

A message from our CEO:

I hope you are enjoying this wonderful day in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He would have been 95 years of age this year and his legacy is still a beacon of inspiration.

Allow me to remind you that we are still in a time of social and economic challenges for many, especially those we serve. The ills of war and political divisions keep us from being united in the spirit of love and humanity. Discrimination in housing still exists through appraisal biases and mortgage lending. And the effects of redlining still saddle many communities that were decimated by disinvestment, and where wealth through homeownership has been lost.

Fifty-six years later we are still fighting for economic justice and equity for which Dr. King was advocating at the time of his death. Let us stay in the fight and be reminded of his unwavering commitment to social and economic justice. Let us be reminded that every single one of our actions and efforts, can ignite a powerful collective movement. Let’s engage in actions that bring positive change, fostering a community where his principles thrive. Let us not give up hope.

Celebrating a Year of Success 🌟

Our Housing Counselor Nikki has had the incredible journey of working with local resident Ms. Phillips for the past year to prepare to buy her first home. Today we have some exciting updates to share!

Ms. Phillips dedication and hard work have led to some remarkable achievements!

📈 Her income has increased significantly, opening new opportunities for her and her family.

📊 Her credit score skyrocketed by 60 points in September after months of diligent and consistent effort paying down debt and adhering to a budget.

👩‍👧‍👦Our housing counselors help with the home buying process, and in the process, form bonds and connections with homebuyers and their families that last long after they buy their first home. Nikki has had the opportunity to meet Ms. Phillips family and has supported the whole family as they prepare for homeownership.

Ms. Philips resilience and determination inspires us all. Here's to many more milestones together!

In June, Wells Fargo awarded Manna, Inc $50,000 to support our Home Ownership Center. Our partnership with Wells Fargo helps residents like Ms. Godwin utilize the many resources provided through our Home Ownership Center and become homebuyers.

“Having the opportunity to build multigenerational family wealth feels wonderful,” Godwin said. “I’m talking to my kids and grandkids about homeownership now so they know what to do when they get older, so they can become homebuyers and be prepared to hold onto this house as an investment for years to come.”

Manna’s Home Ownership Center provides free or low-cost, high-quality homebuyer education with peer support.

👇 are thrilled to be adding 76 brand new affordable rental units to help meet the District's housing production goals, and make meaningful difference in the lives of very low-income and needing permanent . This new community will consume very little heating and cooling which will benefit its residents, especially as housing affordability is at an all time high. It is also named after former D.C. Councilmember H.R. Crawford who left a strong legacy in community service and a commitment to house populations at risk of homelessness. Special thanks to our public, and private partners who helped this development come to a closing.
