While at their host institutions, participants explore core U.S. values and culture, share their own culture and unique perspectives in American classrooms, and strengthen their leadership and professional skills. Many participants create long-lasting connections with Americans and leave the United States with a more nuanced understanding of their field of study, community service, and themselves. Happy #NationalParkWeek! If you haven't had a chance this week to enjoy and learn about the United States' remarkable network of natural, cultural and recreational sites, it's not too late. You can join John Duwe, a 2017 Fulbright Specialist and Education Coordinator at Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon, today at 3:00pm ET for a virtual exploration of the park in celebration of The Fulbright Program 75th anniversary.

This #EarthDay, we're proud to reaffirm our commitment to environmental responsibility as a key component of World Learning programs!

Our programs are designed to minimize our environmental footprint, and our deep relationships with global communities help us administer programs that are sustainable for all.

Our current sustainability-focused #VirtualExchange, The Experiment Digital Climate Change & the Environment, connects high school students across the world to explore the fields of environmental sustainability and climate diplomacy from local to national and global scales.

Other programs such as the Global UGRAD Program and The Experiment provide opportunities for both environmental education and action throughout the participant experience. Thank you to all our partners and participants that help us make this important work possible!

A message from Carol Jenkins, CEO of World Learning:

Yesterday the jury in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin concluded their deliberations, finding Chauvin guilty for the murder of George Floyd in May of 2020. Floyd was senselessly taken from family and countless friends who describe him as always cheerful and a quiet, beautiful spirit.

While this decision provides some accountability, it does not provide justice, and as an organization founded on the belief in a more peaceful and just world, and the humanity of all people, we cannot stay silent.

Floyd, who had been nicknamed “gentle giant” as a high school football star in Texas, was a father who had recently moved to Minneapolis to start the next chapter of his life, and was, like many, struggling to make ends meet after losing his job amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a pandemic which has disproportionately impacted communities of color.

The murders of George Floyd and too many others at the hands of police are rooted in centuries of anti-Black oppression and violence in the U.S. that must be addressed. We are committed to doing the hard work of confronting our biases in ourselves, our organization, and communities.

At this critical juncture, we want to affirm that Black Lives Matter, and that Black voices and experiences are critical to our work as an organization promoting intercultural connection and understanding. We support the tireless work of organizers across our country pushing for a future that upholds a motto we are proud of and that inspires our work—of “justice for all.”

To all in our community, we want you to know that we are here for and we support you.

Hi. My name is Roberto Echevarría. I was invited by my colleague and close friend Ismael Saavedra and the University of San Marcos to participate in your program in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 2017. As an invited lecturer and documentarist, I was able to more than appreciate the work of World Learning, I loved it! I just found out that the program might come to Puerto Rico where I currently reside. I am born and raised here in Puerto Rico. I know first hand the intrinsic challenges faced by its citizens. I'd like to contact the person in charge of the program this year; and most definetly like to be a participant. I am currently registered in your organization. Thank you. Roberto
