“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." —Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day today, here's a throwback to the Youth Ambassadors with Brazil's visits to the MLK Memorial and the MLK Peace Walk and Parade!

Students conducted their own research on Dr. King and the significance of the memorial, and emphasized its placement in line with the Lincoln memorial from whose steps King delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. The legacy of Dr. King remains an important dialogue topic for our young leaders to open.

Hi. My name is Roberto Echevarría. I was invited by my colleague and close friend Ismael Saavedra and the University of San Marcos to participate in your program in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 2017. As an invited lecturer and documentarist, I was able to more than appreciate the work of World Learning, I loved it! I just found out that the program might come to Puerto Rico where I currently reside. I am born and raised here in Puerto Rico. I know first hand the intrinsic challenges faced by its citizens. I'd like to contact the person in charge of the program this year; and most definetly like to be a participant. I am currently registered in your organization. Thank you. Roberto

Last week, Fulbright Specialist Dr. Mary McCarthy presented a lecture on Interventions with At-Risk Children for social work faculty, agency leaders, and undergraduate students at the Islamic State University in Yogayakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. More than 200 participants learned about evidence based interventions for children and the standards used to develop an evidence based intervention. Participants contributed to the discussion by identifying which children might be considered "at-risk" in Indonesia and talking about social work practices that can assist these children and their families.
