WE Can Code Program Teaches Women’s Economic Empowerment with Newly Designed Book

Today we celebrate #WomensDay by recognizing the women in Jordan participating in our new program, WE Can Code!

World Learning is working to break the bias and promote women’s equality through women’s economic empowerment and career mentorship.

WE Can Code helps disadvantaged women in secondary school explore career opportunities in Jordan’s growing information, communications, and technology (ICT) job market. The participants are partnered with female professionals in Jordan who serve as role models. They also take part in webinars with female IT professionals from the U.S. The program, which also includes male participants, aims to teach all genders that women can play an important role in Jordan’s ICT sector.

A Statement in Solidarity with Ukraine from the CEO of World Learning and the President of SIT - World Learning

World Learning and the School for International Training are deeply saddened by the events unfolding in Ukraine. We are keenly aware of the many innocent people who will be directly impacted by this tragic situation, and what this will mean for the broader region and the world.

Our programs aim to strengthen democratic processes and civic institutions and facilitate inclusive societies in which all voices can be heard. The events unfolding today are diametrically opposed to all that we stand for and believe in.

Today, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine against acts of force and violence. Read our full statement here: http://ow.ly/O4KS50I3PV5

Last summer, we had the privilege to implement the first in-person pilot project to launch since COVID-19! The three-week IVLP project for Nigeria entitled “Human Rights and Civic Engagement for Youth,” visited Washington, DC, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Our participants are activists and changemakers working to empower marginalized communities, advance LGBTQ+ rights, end state-sanctioned violence, and draw attention to human rights abuses. Thank you to our Visitors and their openness and eagerness to make the most of their journey, making for a very meaningful experience, despite the difficult circumstances.

Engaging with Honest History: How Organizations Should Celebrate Black History Month

February is #BlackHistoryMonth, a time when many organizations write about notable Black figures in history and events from the past, especially those that may be most relevant to their work. But since history continues to be a contested subject across the world, organizations today must deliberately highlight stories, individuals, and topics beyond traditional narratives.
