When DC PCSB reopened its office in July 2021, the Office Welcome Committee took the lead on thoughtfully engaging staff with transitioning to the office by providing fun and stress relieving items for everyone.

To ease staff anxiety around returning to our office, everyone received a welcome kit on their first day back that includes: knitting supplies, clay and a clay makers guide, and adult coloring books and color pencils.

Here's what we've created as a staff! Research shows that these types of soothing activities help ease social anxiety. #DCcharterProud

Feb 13, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM EST online event Register for The Power of Poetry In You at https://www.estherproductionsinc.com/events-1/the-power-of-poetry-in-you-a-writing-workshop-for-teens-14-through-17 During THE POWER OF POETRY IN YOU , award-wining author and performance artist Joy Jones will lead teen participants through several writing exercises that help them better understand the structure, language and other aspects of poetry. They also will be guided through a process that helps them realize how poetry is revealed in their own lives and history, enhancing their personal self-esteem and sense of self-worth while eliminating a barrier between them and one of the oldest literary art forms in the world. “Joy Jones is a trainer, performance poet, playwright and author of several books including Private Lessons: A Book of Meditations for Teachers; Tambourine Moon, which was selected as one of the best books for children by the black caucus of the ALA and featured on the Bernie Mac Show; and Fearless Public Speaking. She has won awards for her writing from the D. C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, and the Colonial Players Promising Playwrights Competition, plus awards from both the D. C. Department of Recreation & Parks and the D. C. Commission on National & Community Service for outstanding community service. Joy Jones’ provocative op-ed on marriage trends for The Washington Post, “Marriage is for White People”, went viral. She is the director of the arts organization, The Spoken Word, and the founder of the Double Dutch team, DC Retro Jumpers, which has led exhibitions and classes throughout metropolitan Washington and abroad. Highly recommend https://EasyVirtualChoir.com, super easy to use, and it is FREE! The software aligns audio/video tracks automatically and generates virtual choir videos instantly. Users have created videos for choir, band, chamber music, virtual rehearsal, online music teaching, choir dance, audition, recital, singing with sign language, drama practice, skit etc., or simply for fun with friends and family. Educators have used it to integrate music, teacher instructions and student participation into one video. It’s a great visualization tool and virtual platform combined, especially useful for online classrooms. The entire process is so intuitive, simple and fast for both teachers and students, that many k-12 school teachers got a video created with 15-40 kids after just one class period. Remote music classes and online rehearsals have become so much easier with this software, which has made teachers thrilled, students delighted, and parents pleased. Hope this free service will help your students too!
