Check out this cosmic collaboration between ARS and NASA researchers at the Biotechnology Lab at Walt Disney World Resort, where they are growing apples for space! Congratulations to Dr. Kim Bowman (pictured left) for being named the 2026 Researcher of the Year! 🎉
Bowman, an ARS research geneticist (Plants), received the award for his leadership in pioneering citrus breeding research and for his lasting contributions to the advancement of Florida’s citrus industry. The award was recently presented by the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association. https://www.ffva.com/
For more than 30 years, Bowman has led citrus rootstock research for ARS in Fort Pierce, FL. He has been instrumental in developing innovative solutions to improve citrus production and helping U.S. growers address challenges like Huanglongbing (HLB), or citrus greening disease.

Join ARS as we travel to Geneva, NY — a great destination for crisp, semi-dry and semi-sweet w**es. Here in the Finger Lakes region, they pour popular w**e varieties like Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. They also grow unique hybrid grapes including Niagara, Cayuga White, and Vignoles. In this podcast, researchers are helping w**e growers reduce the susceptibility of Vignoles grapes to bunch rot disease. You’ll also learn how researchers are looking into the “Foxy” flavor found in the popular Concord grape.
