🚨LOCATION CHANGE🚨

The location for tonight’s ANC 3A meeting has changed due to an outage in the air conditioning at the McLean Gardens Ballroom. The meeting will be held upstairs in a conference room in the same building at 3811 Porter Street NW.

I know that the recent incidents on Wisconsin Avenue—the domestic violence homicide and the subsequent officer-involved shooting—have been incredibly traumatic for our community. I am hearing your concerns regarding public safety, the coordination between MPD and MTPD on our public transit, and the availability of mental health and domestic violence resources.

I will be joining the upcoming ANC 3A meeting on Tuesday, July 21, at 7:00 PM along with MPD and MTPD to address these issues directly. We will dedicate the first part of the meeting to this discussion. There will also be information regarding available support services for residents, including those who may have been impacted by these events or who are navigating the aftermath.

🗑️ DPW: Waste/recycling collection is suspended Fri 7/3. Service resumes Sat 7/4.

📚 Libraries: DCPL's non-cooling center locations are closed Fri & Sat.

DC is facing a significant heatwave through July 5. Temperatures will be dangerously high, and it is vital that we all take precautions to keep ourselves and our neighbors safe.

The most important takeaway: If you or someone you know needs a safe place to go, help is available. Please call the Shelter Hotline at 202-399-7093 or 311. They can arrange transportation to a cooling location or shelter 24/7. There is plenty of space for everyone to come inside.

Key Updates:
Cooling Buses: Available at MLK Library on July 3, 4, and 5 (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.)

Capacity: 140 additional shelter beds are open through Sunday, including 50 for women.

Holiday Closures (Friday, July 3): Please note that the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center, LAYC Youth Drop-In, SAMU First Response, and Sasha Bruce Youth Drop-In Centers will be closed or the holiday observance.

Ward 3 Neighbors: Our local spray parks and outdoor/indoor pools are open. Please use these facilities to cool down and remember to check on older adults and individuals with medical conditions.

I am proud of the budget we passed this week. As your Councilmember, my priority was balancing our immediate needs with a sustainable path forward. We secured funding to eliminate the childcare waitlist for 8,450 children, bolstered our healthcare infrastructure, and ensured our firefighters are supported.
