A milestone moment for the sea-based leg of the nation’s nuclear triad: NNSA along with its labs, plants, and sites partnered with the U.S. Navy to complete the first production unit of the W76 Mark 4B reentry body, nearly 3 months ahead of schedule.

NNSA partnered with law enforcement partners across the country, and deployed 200+ Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) professionals to protect the FIFA World Cup in the U.S. Department of Energy’s largest-ever preventative radiological and nuclear detection mission.

NEST personnel from the Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) – America’s premier first responder organization for assessing radiological incidents – fanned out across the country to protect World Cup venues using advanced radiation detection systems.

The mission was the result of years of planning with federal, state, local, tribal, and international partners. It was made possible by the dedicated workforce, who left their families and daily roles at labs, plants and sites nationwide to serve. 🇺🇸

These awards honor extraordinary individuals and teams whose visionary efforts have dramatically boosted productivity and propelled the NNSA mission, fortified NSE cybersecurity, amplified information technology usage, and undeniably safeguarded U.S. national security.

NNSA is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy by providing the HALEU needed to support NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s SR-1 Freedom mission to Mars and Radiant Industries' advanced reactor projects.

NASA, INL and the private industry are partnering to develop fission-powered spacecraft for Mars by 2028 and a nuclear reactor for the moon by 2030.

Last week KCNSC employees participated in the United States Strategic Command Nuclear Deterrence Symposium and Experience Day, where they saw U.S. Strategic Command’s strategic assets up close including a U.S. Air Force E-4B National Airborne Operations Center aircraft. They met with National Nuclear Security Administration Administrator Brandon Williams at Experience Day and heard his keynote address of modernization of the nuclear stockpile through production, urgency and deterrence.

NNSA has exercised the remaining Option Period on Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC’s contract for the management and operation of the Savannah River Site, extending performance through September 30, 2027.
