Becoming a Leader: How Coming Out Changed Everything | Daniel Magazine

"With the bullying and no real space to explore my sexuality, I internalized a lot of homophobia. I felt ashamed. I was in denial about who I was. I felt alone and didn’t know where else to be but in the closet.

However, my shame eventually grew into a sense of conviction, a desire to empower others in combating oppression — a shift that occurred when I was forced to confront who I am before a large crowd of people, many of whom I had never met."

Check out Gregory Cendana, Executive Director of Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, on How Coming Out Changed Everything!

In a lot of conversations and during any of my public speaking engagements, I share with people that I am gay. Many people ask me why I make a point to do so. Well, I share this aspect of my identity for a couple of reasons. One, I recognize the resilience of our community and two, it’s an exemplifi...

HAPPENING NOW: Over 200 leaders outside of Speaker John Boehner's house demanding he bring immigration reform up for a vote!

11/16/2013

Keep calm and...call Office of Speaker Boehner!

Shout out to America's Voice for this great graphic!

By now you've probably heard the news. The most powerful Republican in the House, Speaker John Boehner, is siding with a small group of anti-immigrant extremists, like Steve King, and refusing to budge on immigration reform.

Sure, this is a blow to our movement, but we knew all along that passing immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship wouldn't be easy.

Immigration reform won't be won in Washington, DC. It's the millions of every day heroes -- the DREAMers, and their parents, the farm workers and day laborers -- that will ultimately lead us to victory. It's the people that have been calling Congress and showing up at their offices that will ultimately push immigration reform across the finish line. We can't stop. We have come too far to turn back now!

Spoiler alert: It's that the young voters are important.
