Sunday Suppers DC

Sunday Suppers DC Sunday Suppers feeds the less fortunate of Washington, D.C. at Franklin Square on 14th St NW between I and K St each Sunday at 6:00pm. Come volunteer!

Sunday Suppers has been serving up food, friendship and fellowship to the Washington, DC community since 1990. Sunday Suppers is: * a diverse group of people who want to make the world a better place, one personal visit at a time. * several races, ethnicities and generations * not affiliated with any specific church, although most of us belong to some organized religion - our members have included Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Hindus, Moslems and Eastern religions * a group of people who gather every Sunday night to reach out to homeless men, women and children on the streets of Washington, DC, offering hot meals, clothes and, most importantly, friendship.

Mission: While we do serve meals and distribute clothing, our true mission is to establish friendships and build relationships with the people that we serve.

Looking forward to seeing Kipp Dc Spring Academy Pcs teachers again on October 28th! If anyone else can help provide the sandwiches and eggs for To Go bags, please drop us a line at [email protected]

Tonight we had an amazing meal (really THREE meals) provided by KIPP DC Spring Academy. We served over 60 people. We had great conversation.

When a group owns a Sunday like this, it is a really nice treat. The people we serve get variety. Our skeleton crew gets a night off from cooking. And most importantly, more residents of DC build connections across socioeconomic divisions.

Tonight hardworking DC teachers gave even more to our community than they already do every day in their classrooms. Their generosity and commitment to access for all is awe-inspiring and humbling. We can’t express our gratitude enough.

September 30th is one of those rare 5th Sundays when we don't have a church that is scheduled to cover Sunday Suppers. But 5th Sundays are our favorite because that is when we have a chance to see something big and beautiful come out of many individual's smaller contributions. Will you be part of this month's miracle? We need a hot meal and drinks for 60 people as well as To Go bags with sandwiches and boiled eggs. Perhaps you can pick up some potato salad or you are willing to drive the van? We will take any help we can get!

Traffic advisory released for upcoming 'Unite the Right' rally this weekend in D.C.

LOVE IS JUST A RELENTLESS SHOWING UP. - Glennon Doyle Melton

Sunday Suppers has only missed a single Sunday since it began in 1995, and it was due to the blizzard of 1996. This Sunday, the Unite the Right rally will make transportation to our normal spot difficult, and our regular volunteers have decided not to go. But we are more determined than ever to go on serving dinner - not just in spite of the rally but in the face of the rally.

Franklin Square, where we serve, is many blocks from the path of the rally. But we won't have our van because it is parked on one of the streets that will be closed. So this will be a quicker "to go" dinner (under an hour). Dan Ramish from St. Mark's Episcopal Church- Capitol Hill has volunteered to go with a card table and food. His wife, who is normally with him to serve, won't be going because they don't want to bring the children on this particular Sunday. We need people who can make it to Franklin Square (right at the McPherson square metro stop) at 6pm on Sunday, August 12th. Won't you please help?

Metropolitan Police have released a traffic advisory for this weekend's Unite the Right rally in Washington, D.C.Traffic will be impacted and may include road closures and rolling road closures.Police say the following areas will be impacted between the ho

Tonight was amazing! We had a family come in from way out in Maryland to cook the hot meal and serve. This morning the kids got the idea to go door to door to ask their neighbors to donate toward hygiene bags that they wanted to give out. They were so amazed at how much they raised and how much they could buy. They even left us with extra supplies and a promise to come back again. The next generation is doing good, y’all. There are some serious signs of hope for that future of ours.

Four days ago we sent out an email asking for help with our upcoming Sundays. In that time, we have had people sign up to provide hot meals for 3 different Sundays! We have had people sign up to provide sandwiches and drinks for several other Sundays! This is another part of the joy that is Sunday Suppers. There is the joy of helping our neighbors. But there is also the joy of seeing many hands come together to make light work. Thank you to everyone who so generously supports Sunday Suppers throughout the year! It is going to be an amazing season of thanksgiving and hope!

We have the sandwiches, eggs and hot meal. We even have a four year old who donated his allowance to buy chocolates. What we need is people to come out an help setup and serve. You just need to be at Franklin Square from 6pm to 7:30pm tomorrow.

Can you help? Sunday Suppers is incredibly lucky to have 4 churches that cover 1 Sunday per month by providing a hot meal, eggs and sandwiches as well as consistent fellowship and friendship to people in need. But the 5th Sunday of the month is always ad hoc. For Sunday, July 30, we have volunteers to provide hot meal and eggs. We are still in need of 120 sandwiches. If you can help, please PM us!

St. Mark's Episcopal Church- Capitol Hill

St. Mark's Episcopal Church- Capitol Hill created an awesome video encouraging members to come out and support Sunday Suppers! We are so grateful for their support!

This video was shown during yesterday's sermon (http://www.stmarks.net/grow/sermons/). Sunday Suppers DC still needs 4 casseroles for this coming Sunday, December 18th. To sign up, PM Lisa Ramish. She will send you a "dump and bake" recipe that you would need to bring to Baxter Hall between 4 and 5pm, hot and in a disposable pan.

I have been thinking about fourth of July and what a farce celebrating our country is this year. Sunday Suppers' work is in the true spirit on which our country was founded. What a great way to put your actions where your values are. Won't you help out this weekend?
