Young Elected Officials Network The YEO Network works with young elected leaders around the country as they change communities and build a stronger, bolder & younger progressive movement.

The Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network, a program of People For the American Way Foundation, is the first and only national initiative to provide a network of support to the newest generation of progressive leaders at every level of elected office. Our program was founded by young elected officials and continues to be led by them. In our 10 years we have grown to a network of over 1,000, with members and alumni in every state in the country. The YEO Network is a cutting-edge program investing in the pipeline of progressive leadership and building sustained relationships with our members. We provide the resources young elected officials need to effectively impact policy, foster their own development and professional growth, and elevate their voices and their leadership in the broader progressive movement. We serve to connect those working towards a progressive agenda in communities across the country. Nationwide Networking -

The YEO Network is a genuine community and support network for our members—who value the peer exchange, mentorship, and energy of being brought together with other young progressive leaders, mentors, advisors, and policy experts. Policy Support -

The YEO Network collaborates with our strategic partners to provide policy training and resources to our members year-round. In addition to policy summits and academies, we provide training at our annual National Convening, a yearly policy book, an online legislative exchange, teleconferences, newsletters, regular policy bulletins, and individualized research support. Leadership Development -

The YEO Network offers ongoing professional development in all of our programming. We provide access to high-level training—always informed by the needs of our membership—on executive leadership, good governance, and advancing to higher office. We hold workshops and webinars on everything from effective messaging to technology in constituent engagement.

What a moment for the Young Elected Officials Network! 🇺🇸

Thank you, Vice President , for joining us at the YEO Network’s 2026 National Convening and sharing the full weight of your experience, conviction, and wisdom with our members. From local government and the State Attorney General’s office to the U.S. Senate and the Vice Presidency, you’ve spent a lifetime in public service — and we are deeply grateful that you shared so much of what you’ve learned along the way.

At a moment when our democracy is being tested and the stakes for our communities could not be higher, your message was a powerful reminder of what this generation of leaders must do: meet the moment with courage and authenticity; build a fairer and more open democracy; and keep expanding the promise of justice and opportunity for everyone. The energy in the room was undeniable — and this powerful group of elected leaders from across the nation are leaving inspired, challenged, and ready to get to work.

Each year, we recognize members of the YEO community dedicated to the mission of the network, their local community, and the fight to defend freedom, justice, and democracy for all.

Congratulations to our 2026 winners!

The Q Williams YEO Network Leadership Award goes to Judge Elaissia Sears, recognizing a YEO who has shown great dedication to the YEO Network during the year through support and leadership. (e.g. serving as an involved Regional Director and/or Host Committee member; fully participating in programs and events; contributing to People For requests; actively seeking to recruit new members to the Network; representing the Network at partner events; participating in fundraising efforts).

The Nancy Metayer Trailblazer Award goes to Board Member Bowles, awarded to a YEO who embodies the spirit of the late Vice Mayor of Coral Springs, Nancy Metayer. This YEO exemplifies the principles of equity-centered governance, with policy focuses on environmentalism and housing support. Nancy was a tremendous advocate for these issues, and we want to honor YEOs who best represent these fights for their communities.

Our 2026 Barbara Jordan Award winner is Zaynab Mohamed! This award honors Co-Founder, Congresswoman Jordan’s dedication to public service and our country by recognizing an outstanding young elected official who is following in her footsteps. The Barbara Jordan Leadership Award will be given to a young elected official who has shown dedication and support to the YEO Network and has a distinguished record of public service in their community and the equity movement at large.
