On February 21, 1965 el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (formerly known as Malcolm X) was assassinated. Next Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 6:30 pm the Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) and America's Islamic Heritage Museum will host a community meeting to observe that anniversary. It will be at the museum at 2315 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE. There will be a brief interfaith prayer service followed by a discussion of the topic "Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?" (the title of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's final book). Both Malcolm X and Dr. King were homicide victims and the community discussion will focus on reducing violence in our community. Light refreshments will be served. For information contact ACC at 202-889-4900 and [email protected].

In an effort to support our community as we continue to battle COVID-19, Achievement Prep Charter School presents, "Feed Our People!" Join us on Tuesday, May 19th from 1PM - 5PM for free hot meals! Achievement Prep is a community-centered public charter school network strategically located in Ward 8 to support the needs of our community. It is our honor to serve families during these unsettling times. To respect the social distancing guidelines in effect, and to ensure public health and safety, meals will be available as “grab and go” from the Wahler Place Middle School Campus. Achievement Prep will provide Personal Protective Equipment to all event volunteers, and the Metropolitan Police Department will be on-site to conduct social distancing safety procedures.
Maka, This Thursday the House of Representatives will vote on the NO BAN Act, a bill that would end President Trump’s discriminatory Muslim, asylum, and refugee bans, including the most recent ban targeting Africans. The NO BAN Act would also prevent future presidents from enacting similar policies that discriminate against Black and brown people. Congress has the opportunity to end this discrimination, allow families to be together, and stop Trump’s broad overreaches of power — and you have an important role in passing the NO BAN Act too, Maka. Can you come to the House floor vote this Thursday, March 12 to show your support for ending Trump’s discriminatory bans? NO BAN Act Floor Vote Thursday, March 12, 11:00 AM United States Capitol First Street SE, Washington, DC 20004
