Would you recognize a government imposter scam before it’s too late?
Scammers frequently impersonate government agencies to create a false sense of urgency, panicking individuals into handing over their hard-earned savings. To help protect your family, friends, and neighbors during Elder Justice Awareness Month, memorize these four massive red flags.
The government will NEVER tell you to:
• Move your money to "protect" it because it isn't safe.
• Get cash and wait for a driver or courier to pick it up.
• Deposit funds into a fictional "federal safety locker."
• Provide your Social Security number to qualify for an
unrequested government grant.
If an unexpected caller or message says any of these things, they are lying. Hang up, block the number, and talk openly with older adults in your life to ensure they know these warning signs too. Get verified resources to fight back: ejcc.acl.gov/imposters
