At his 8th “Just Because” dinner in August, food journalist Tom Sietsema gathered 8 people from different walks of life for an evening of great food, wine, & company CENTROLINA MERCATO E OSTERIA. I was happy to be joined by Geoff Freeman, CEO of the US Travel Association; Carla Hall, cook book author & familiar face on multiple TV food shows; leading GOP strategist, Doug Heye, D.C photographer, Deb Lindsey; realtor Andrea Reid; Andy Brown, the visionary behind Andy’s Pizza. The reason? “Just because. We all need more joy in our lives. And it’s fun to break bread with new people.” Tom says he also wants engaged people to meet kindred spirits & support local D.C. restaurants.

Delighted to attend the recent VIP Roundtable with Google Arts & Culture at International Center featuring Assistant Secretary of State U.S. Department of State Cate Dillon, Aaron Hedlund, Vice Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and Chief Economist of the Domestic Policy Council, President of Global Affairs Kent Walker, Vice President for Government Affairs & Public Policy Karan Bhatia, and Vice President of Google Arts & Culture Amit Sood, as well as senior leaders from the U.S. Government, Google, and the diplomatic community. Following the roundtable was the Making of the Nation Garden Party: America250 and Diplomacy.
This program, part of Meridian’s ‘Diplomacy at 250’ initiative, explored how technology is transforming access to culture, knowledge, and heritage worldwide. The conversation also highlighted how technological advancement is influencing both economic and cultural exchange.

Celebrating 40 years of artistic excellence.

Last night’s 40th Anniversary Gala of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo was far more than a celebration of dance—it was a tribute to vision, passion, and perseverance.

My deepest congratulations to Princess Caroline of Hanover, whose unwavering commitment to the arts has shaped one of the world’s most respected ballet companies. Through her vision, Monaco has become a beacon of creativity where artistic excellence continues to flourish.

To Jean-Christophe Maillot, thank you for your extraordinary imagination and for creating works that move us, challenge us, and remind us that dance is one of humanity’s most powerful forms of expression.

And to the remarkable dancers, musicians, and everyone behind the scenes: thank you for bringing this vision to life with such grace, dedication, and emotion. Every performance was spectacular and inspiring, reflecting four decades of artistic excellence.

The evening culminated in an unforgettable grand finale, as generations of dancers who have shaped Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo over the past 40 years returned to the stage together. It was a beautiful and deeply moving celebration of a shared artistic journey—a reminder that while performances come and go, the legacy of great art lives on through those who create it.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this extraordinary adventure. Here’s to the next forty years of beauty, creativity, and inspiration. ♥️🇲🇨

Having signed an MoU this year with Commission (Ambassador Maguy Maccario Doyle above with Commission Chair Rosie Rios after the signing in late April), we look forward to continuing collaborative efforts with our US partners, friends and colleagues as well as the US branches of Monaco’s foundations and institutions to maintain the precious and enduring bonds between our two nations.
