Today, we spotlight another woman that has helped the District make tremendous strides in preserving affordable housing.

Ana Van B***n serves as the District’s first Affordable Housing Preservation Officer. In this role, she works with housing stakeholders, tenants, owners of affordable housing, and real estate and housing advocates to identify and help preserve affordable housing for low-income families in the District.

Van B***n has over 18 years of experience working with families and communities primarily in the Washington, DC metro area.

Today, we honor Phillis Wheatley, the first African-American author of a published book of poetry in 1773.

DHCD is proud to have been apart in financing the renovation of the historic Phyllis Wheatley YWCA in the Shaw neighborhood of Northwest, DC. The $17M project preserved 84 affordable units for the building’s current population of low-income and vulnerable women.
