🌟Intern Spotlight: Driving Real Impact with Mikva Challenge DC 🌟
We are excited to highlight the incredible work of our summer intern, Remi, who joined us through the Mikva Challenge DC program. Remi has been driving critical initiatives across policy research, community outreach, and agency engagement.
Empathy-Driven Outreach: After reading “When We Walk By” by Kevin F. Adler, which explores how the unhoused population is often left out of solutions, Remi designed a 10-question community survey. This tool prioritizes the wants, needs, and desires of the unhoused. She is also coordinating key partner meetings with local providers.
Housing Policy Research: Remi recently finalized a comprehensive comparative study on Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) programs across high-cost cities, including Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Miami. Looking closely at income thresholds, rental vs. homeownership models, fees, and selection processes, her findings were presented directly to our IZ Manager.
Community Action: Bringing her project full circle, Remi launched a staff-wide agency food drive flyer to provide immediate, tangible support to neighbors in need.
