The United States and Brazil are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a Protocol on Trade Rules and Transparency.

This agreement is the latest concrete result of the close relationship between Brazil and the United States and the leadership of President Bolsonaro and President Trump. Following the meeting of the two leaders at Mar-a-Lago in March, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and Brazilian officials announced acceleration of the trade dialogue under the Brazil-U.S. Commission on Economic and Trade Relations (ATEC) and our intent to negotiate in 2020 an agreement on trade rules and transparency, including trade facilitation and good regulatory practices.

Winner of the “1st Nelson Freire National Competition for New Brazilian Talents” in 2003, Brazilian pianist Pablo Rossi received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with “high distinction” at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, under the guidance of the renowned pianist Elisso Virsaladze; he is currently pursuing his second master’s degree at the Mannes School of Music in New York, under Prof. Jerome Rose. As a soloist he has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Kirov, the Chamber Orchestra of Moscow, the Orchestra of Auvergne, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, among others. He’s won several international competitions, such as the “Magda Tagliaferro” and the “International Competition Ciutat de Carlet” (Spain).

This piece, by American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, is a piano variation of the Brazilian National Anthem. The performance was recorded at Carnegie Hall, for the New York launch event of “The Music of Brazil”, a project that presents recordings of 100 orchestral works of 12 Brazilian composers.

Paisagem Cosmica No.2 (Cosmic Landscape No.2), 1963
Oil and sawdust on canvas, 58 x 58"
Gift of Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho

Danilo di Prete exhibited Paisagem Cósmica, No. 2 at the Seventh Bienal de São Paulo, after which Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho donated the piece to the OAS. The painting investigates cosmic themes through a gestural abstract language and a contrasting palette of black, white, and ochre suggestive of interstellar spaces and the light and heat of celestial events. He alternately slathered and scraped paint to create an otherworldly topography at once dense and spacious. Di Prete added sand and grit to the paint to create texture, as well as the suggestion of matter suspended in the seemingly infinite void.

There is nothing excessive or mundane in printmaking. It is an art form designed for the "brains of the soul", as Maria Bonomi, the most vocal advocate of the power of contemporary graphic arts, says. She is one of the most important representatives of Brazilian contemporary art and culture as well as an internationally renowned artist. Her work is optimistic, filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and joy for life. Her prints are expressive, yet defined by fragility and apparent simplicity. The art language of Mara Bonomi is one of woodcuts, with an emphasis on special treatment of the three-dimensional matrix, although she also employs lithography, serigraphy and digital image manipulation. She is an advocate of communicative and collaborative art and her prints articulate intelligence and sensibility.
