Should patients be forced to try and fail an alternative medication before insurers will cover the cost of the medication their doctors originally prescribed to them? This is a practice called Step Therapy. Washington is one of more than 30 states that have already passed state laws to reform that practice. Now, there is federal legislation pending in Congress to reform the same practice for employer health plans. On June 15th, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time), there will be an open discussion on the Safe Step Act. If you haven't already, register now to join the conversation and voice your opinion:

Step therapy hurts America's sickest patients — reasonable parameters are needed now

Innovative treatments can help slow disease progressions for those living with digestive diseases and millions of patients living with numerous other chronic diseases. That's why it is so important to have access to incredible scientific innovations so that patients can live full, productive and active lives. But the insurance practice called #steptherapy is a barrier to that access. Patients and their doctors shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get the medicine they know will work best.

Passing the #safestepact #S464 #HR2163 will enable doctors and patients to get access to the medicines they need in a timely fashion.https://tinyurl.com/y99nnd2m

No American should have to go without treatment, simply because health plan policies fail to put patients first.
