At the Mission, we believe lasting change means more than meeting an immediate need, it means helping people build a path toward lasting stability and self-sufficiency.

That is why Workforce Development and Education is a key priority for the coming year. Through our growing network of 11 trade partners, we are connecting our clients with opportunities to learn practical, marketable skills in fields such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automotive repair, welding, and other skilled trades.

And this week, 12 of our clients took another important step forward. We welcomed the Goodwill Excel Center DC for a presentation about opportunities to earn a high school diploma, build digital literacy skills and pursue professional certifications, all at no cost to our clients.

Every partnership, training opportunity, and new connection represents another door opening.

Our goal is simple: equip people with the skills, resources, and opportunities they need to pursue meaningful careers, greater independence, stability, and a brighter future.

We are so very grateful to the partners who are helping us make that possible!

At first glance, they’re drawings of trees. But every branch, root and mark tells part of a story. 🌳

As part of their journey at Central Union Mission, men in our program are taking time to look honestly at their lives: the good, the painful, the relationships, experiences, and traumas that have shaped them along the way.

After talking through those experiences, they put them on paper, creating a visual picture of their family histories and the circumstances that have influenced who they are today.

It’s an important part of the healing process: recognizing the past without being defined by it.

The men begin to see how experiences from years ago may have influenced their choices, struggles and addictions, but they also discover something far greater: That their past is not their identity.

Through healing, reflection and growing in their relationship with God, they are discovering who they truly are, and that their lives have purpose, value, and a place in God’s plan.

At the Mission, transformation often begins by understanding where you’ve been and discovering that, by God’s grace, your story isn’t finished yet. 🌱

Small Lunch. Big Miracle. Big Impact. 🙌

Mission: NOVA was filled with joy, laughter and plenty of smiles on Monday as we welcomed 15 children for our first Kid’s Summer Event!

The afternoon was packed with games, prizes, pizza, more games, and more prizes, but the most important part was a powerful Bible message from Wendy about the young boy who offered his five loaves and two fish to Jesus. What looked like a small gift became part of a big miracle.

Wendy reminded the children that they are never too young to make a difference. She challenged each of them to think of one way they could help a parent or friend this week.

No good deed, and no person, is too small for God to use! ❤️

A special thank-you to Camp Bennett’s Lonni Howard, Carlos Dimas, and their friends for helping make this day so special. What a gift to see these children having fun, growing in faith and friendships, and learning that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact!

The Men's Shelter is grateful for our wonderful friends at Love in Action DC! ❤️

They recently returned with a whole new crew of volunteers for a morning filled with hands-on service, encouragement, joy, and prayer. From caring for our space to lifting up our guests in prayer, their team reminded us that love in action can make a lasting difference.

Thank you, Love in Action DC, for serving alongside us and helping make the Mission a place of hope! 🙏

A clean room. An encouraging note. A kind smile. A prayer spoken over every bed. ❤️

We’re so grateful for the devoted volunteers from DC360 Church, who recently served at the Men’s Shelter with generous hearts and willing hands. They helped create a clean, comfortable, and welcoming space for our guests and filled every room with words of encouragement and prayer.

Thank you, DC360 Church, for reminding us that serving others is about more than what we do, it’s about the love we bring with us. Your faith and service have helped make the Mission stronger! 🙏
